Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

Paul/Dirk...

I have tweaked the MBTiles code for improved performance and reduced memory footprint.

The current github HEAD and build artifacts will display the three MBTiles files provided. The z10 + z17 set requires fairly high zoom-in to view the z17 content. This is intentional. Chart display at high underzoom is slow, and does not provide any meaningful navigational aid.

Let me know how this goes. You may also be interested in:

Yes it works for me too! One question: does the slider for "Chart Zoom/scale Weighting" have any influence when using mbtiles?

Baikal,

When I try to install this version I get a missing dll:

wxbase312u_net_vc_custom.dll was not found.
wxmsw312u_gl_vc_custom.dll was not found
... and a number of others.

Geoff.

Do not use this, there is absolutely no need for that. If you must, use the latest build from Appveyor at https://ci.appveyor.com/project/bdbc...uild/artifacts

Installed dbcat's latest:
https://ci.appveyor.com/project/bdbc...uild/artifacts
opencpn_4.99.1408+731e3e8_setup.exe

Nice fixes for mbtiles!

The overzoom fix is correct, but interesting when you have missing zoom levels in your mbtiles. (no overzoom shown, zoom in and it's shown, zoom in again and it's gone (and the chart changes))

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

I have found a performance related issue with Mbtiles:

I have a very large mbtiles file of 503MB in size (Zoom 16 covering a fairly large area ( ~212x75 NM ) ). When this file is brought up OpenCPN stalls when zooming in and out or moving around.

PC: Windows 10 x64, i7, 16G ram.

Am I simply asking too much for OPCN to deal with such a large number of tiles?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

Dave,

regarding mbtiles, FS 2456 still is an issue for me. In the highlighted area, the wrong mbtiles file is selected to show detail, the other mbtiles file has the needed detail.

the 2 mbtiles and more screenshots are in flyspray.

geoff, shouldn't be a problem, I have mbtiles up to 4.5GB and it shows and quilts nicely on a laptop with

  • Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6300U CPU @ 2.40GHz
  • 16GB ram
  • ubuntu 18.10

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

I mentioned this early when mbtiles was first time discussed on the opencpn cruisersforum, and Dave thought this to be a good idea for a Plugin:

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post2581576

Quote:
Feature request:

Could this be expanded to read the chart/tiles cache from SAS.Планета directly, without the user needing to create MBTiles, when the cache is already there, in well structured folders?
Since quite a few users already seem to use SASPlanet to get their satellite, Navionics, CMap, etc charts, I would like to see this in the core OpenCPN.

Whether plugin or part of core, if you like the idea please vote for this feature request:

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

I just stumbled onto your beta. Really nice job with 4.99. Interface seems cleaner. The dual pane canvas is a GREAT improvement. Some of you already know that while underway I always run two instances of OpenCPN with one zoomed in and another zoomed out. This implements that feature very nicely without having to run two instances.

A few comments from my testing at home on Windows 10 desktop (no GPS interfaced). Let me know if I should enter these into Flyspray:
  • The "Enable Tracking" icon is "sticky" - the icon doesn't turn off after a second click. Collapsing and re-expanding the menu bar restores the deactivated icon. The second click does turn it off, but it's just a display issue with the icon
  • As a Windows tablet user, I REALLY like the feature to click on the compass icon to activiate/deactivate Course Up mode. I'm glad this is still supported, but the radio button status doesn't instantaneously update if you have the right menu bar open. You need to refresh by collapsing and re-expanding the menu bar
  • The 4.8 Lookahead mode (blue boat icon) is only available on left canvas; The "more general lookahead mode" (green boat icon) is only available on right canvas (not left). Do you want it this way, or is this a bug?

This one is corrected in Github master.

In Win10 I don't see this. I can toggle the radio button also when the menu is open.

In Win10 both Autofollow modes works on left and right canvas. You know you have to toggle "Look ahead mode", the blue or green icon, in the canvas menu?

If the look ahead mode in the menu is selected you get the old blue boat otherwise you get the new green boat.
