Can you please tell us where it indicates that it does not work well with "older gps units", whatever you think that is?

Thanks.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

MCM, you have us all puzzled. Where Does Opencpn v5.0 state that?
If you could be more specific it would help, because it is essentially the same programatically.

If the reason you wish to change back to 4.8.8 is because of the fixed menu's perhaps you should be advised that this is done to conform to newer interface standards, and this menu can be shrunk to almost nothing by clicking the bars at the top.

If you really insist, you will find v4.8.8 in the downloads page or if it is not found there, we can direct you to an alternate, However we would appreciate it if you would give v5.0 a half a chance, it has a number of improvements to the code.

Thanks.
And I would like you to explain where does version 5.0 indicate it does not work with "older gps units on windows 7" to be able to fix this erroneous information. Thanks.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

In ver 5 help ..going by memory, there is an issue with globalstar bu 3 ? gps units that will not work satisfactorily, and I believe it was a caution that older style gps will not work satisfactorily.
I would like to back to one of the ver 4 issues please.

What GPS receiver do you have?

The issue that you refer was a Windows 10 issue. If you are on W7 it doesnt apply.

How are you interfacing the GPS to the pc?

That in your furious anger you misread the information that BU-353 is not supported by Windows 10 (which of course is the same regardless of OpenCPN version you use) you already know now.
Thank you a lot for your time, you may get the 4.8.8 installer for Windows at http://download.opencpn.org/4.8.8/op....8.8_setup.exe

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

Thanks for all the hard to produce this version and the prior versions. Love it!
Small problem ; I'm using a Gigabyte Brix computer with a USB powered and connected monitor running windows 10 utilizing Display Link Softwware. I get the following error on startup:
"load library failed with error 87 the parameter is incorrect." I had this problem on the current version ,4.88 and found if I ran with no openGL, OpenCpn worked great. That work around did not work on the latest version.
any ideas?
Thanks

Most likely it is caused by broken ATI GPU drivers. Solution might be or something else described in the hundreds of results returned by LMGTFY

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

The solution was different for each of my two armhf boards.

I tried the source change suggested by bdbcat to completely disable OpenGL on the raspberry Pi 3B+ and it worked. Thanks much. I am still puzzled why the stock version works on the same board when I do the Openplotter load, but I am up and running with raspbian stretch.

I did an apt-get upgrade on the Orange PI 2plus board just before I was going to recompile OpenCPN and the stock version started working on that board as well with no need to recompile with the source chanage. There was a kernel and armbian-firmware update in the batch of things that was upgraded, but those were the only things that seemed relevant.

Thanks much, ejs

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

Hello Dave, Pavel, RGleson, ...

A French says do not find the plugin NMEA convertor for Linux in ppa. He wants to install it on his RPI.

Is it in error or something prevents the installation of this plugin?
