Re: OpenCPN version: hirsute ?

You can install OpenCPN direct from the repository of Ubuntu.

sudo apt install opencpn. That works. However the Hirtute is not yet supported by OpenCPN.

But if you change the server settings to Focal (can easy be done in the Synaptic packet software). Then you have OpenCPN running on the Hirtute version and this works very well.

I'am running Hirtute on a Raspberry Pi4 2 GB.

Here 2 versions of OpenCPN running in the Ubuntu Hirtute version.

Weird as I have anewly installed Laptop with 21.04 and it reports no installation candidate for Hirsuite.

How exactly did you enable a PPA with a 21.04 version?

Cheers

Re: OpenCPN version: hirsute ?

Hi Spart,

OpenCPN is with the Ubuntu version in the repository.

You can simply install OpenCPN with: sudo apt install OpenCPN. But there is still no release version for the Hirtute.

But if you change the Hirtute setting to Focal then it works. Can be done with Synaptic in the server settings. Replace Hirtute with Focal reload. You can search in Synaptic for OpenCPN what is installed. Must now be Focal.

However there is a new system called flatpak.

In install flatpack first. sudo apt install flatpak. Now you have flatpack on your system.

Next install OpenCPN for flatpak:

flatpak install --user https://flathub.org/beta-repo/appstr...CPN.flatpakref

Copy this instruction and run it in the terminal.

Starting OpenCPN can be done in the terminal with:

flatpak run org.opencpn.OpenCPN//beta

It is a rather new development with OpenCPN running in an own enviroment.

This command you can put as an Icon on the Desktop.

But changing in the server setting Hirtute to the Focal version also works. The Flatpak version and the Focal version can run both on the same system.

Regards,

Bram

@verkerkbr

Many thanks, Yes I managed to get it running as Focal thank you.

I will let Flatpak mature a bit first I think

Spart....
Glad you are interested in experimenting with the cutting edge of Ubuntu distros.
I'd appreciate any feedback you can bring regarding OpenCPN plugins in that environment.

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN version: hirsute ?

Hi I just built a new rpi4 4GB running the official released 21.04 64 bit desktop image.

I can install opencpn fine from the Ubunt u repo using the focal key selector.

However on running opencpn I cannot update the list of plugins it pops upa dialouge box saying plugin list updated but only the default set show up. I cannot therefore install oesenc plugin etc.

Is there a workaround for this.

I tried installing the oesenc plugin from the command line but it caused opencpn plugin browser to become unresponsive on trying to activate the plugin.

Cheers

Re: OpenCPN version: hirsute ?

Hi Spart,

work is going on with the Oesenc plugin.

You probably only see the master version of the plugins. But you can try the beta version. Don't know if this works with your present charts.

Here running with the oesenc plugin version 4.2.14 for the usb dongle.

What you can try is, go the OpenCPN config file: opencpn.conf and add after first sentence plugins:

CatalogExpert=1

Then you can set the plugins tot the beta settings in O.

And remember if you need the usbplug. You must install the libusb file, as mentioned before.

For the Flatpak version there is another plugin in the making.

Re: OpenCPN version: hirsute ?

I can see both the master and beta options but it does not matter which one I select when I press update it simply says that he catalog is updated but no new plugins show up in the list.

Re: OpenCPN version: hirsute ?

spartiacle...

Just so you know:
The OpenCPN "official" solution for rPI/4 (64 bits) is Flatpak.
There will be no plugins built for various advanced versions of Ubuntu/64 on rPI.

At the moment, the supported OpenCPN Flatpak version uses Flatpak SDK/20.08. This is currently in Beta test, shortly to be promoted to Production release.

Experimentally, it may be possible to run some OpenCPN plugins using the Ubuntu 20.04 (focal) release of OCPN. These plugins will not be actively supported on this environment, however.

Re: OpenCPN version: hirsute ?

Hi Spart,

the flatpak version works very well. But you can also use your present O version untill the Flatpak is official.

If you like to try the oesenc plugin 14.

It is attached here with the additian of pdf. Remove pdf and install the plugin.

So it works here.
