But with the flatpak setup there is only one flatpak OpenCPN version for every Linux system.

At first you to install the flatpak enviroment: sudo apt install flatpak.

And then OpenCPN 5.6 flatpak version. Then you have all the plugins available.

One size fits all. Running here in my RPI's and on my Linux Mint Umo for AMD64.

There are many other flatpak version available and also OpenCPN.

Look at Flathub and search for OpenCPN. Download (not yet install)

Go to the Downloads folder and then in the terminal: flatpak install (name of the Downloaded OpenCPN file).

Not only OpenCPN is in the flatpak version. Here also running Chromiun-browser, Libreoffice, Dolphin file manager, VLC, Evolution email etc.

The flatpak version works very well.

Hi there, and please bear with me as a raspberry illiterate - I have installed now the 64 Bit-version (bullseye) on my raspberry and trying to install OpenCPN without much hazzle, I used Flatpak.

However, I am having difficulties to install plugins. There seems to be only a selection of plugins to work with this version. The plugins I installed and that work (except WMM, Dashboard, Chart Downloader and GRIB who worked right from the beginning o.k.) are: Radar, sar, DR, otcurrent, VFkaps, pypilot, o-charts, UKtides, Autopilot Route, EarthExplorer and Logbook.

The plugins that don't work (they can be installed and even enabled but do not show up in the menu-bar and after shutting down OpenCPN and starting again show as uninstalled packages. Once you "install" ONE of them again (from cache), you see all the "not installed" packages again but not enabled. Enabling doesn't do anything. .... Same result as after a "normal" new installation of the plugin(s).

These plugins are: Celestial Navigation, Climatology, Findit, OCPN Draw, Plots, Polar, squiddio, VDR, Watchdog, Weatherfax and finally Weatherrouting. (Honestly, these are the most important plugins for me...)

What am I doing wrong?? Can anybody help me?

Thanks a lot and best regards, Uwe

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

Hi Uwe,

did you update the Plugin Catalog master ?

Then you get most of the available plugins.

Nice that most things work now.

Regards,

Bram

Hi Bram,

thanks for your response. Yes, I updated the catalog (in fact I do this every day when not on the boat, to ensure I have the latest stuff in case of necessity) yesterday there was an update for Climatology, which doesn't work, today there was an update for Polars, which doesn't work too in my envirinment. O.K.?

Thanks again and best regards, Uwe

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

We need some testers to confirm this problem and to learn more about it.

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

One can follow the installation and enabling and jailing(if necessary) by reading the logfile. That is the first step in debugging plugin load problems.

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

I don't see any "jailed" on Windows.

Rick...
..and you should not see jailed plugins, except in error conditions.

A plugin is "jailed" when it cannot load properly. Jailing keeps it from trying and failing on each startup.

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

Dear Rick, dear Dave,

thanks a lot for looking into this. Please be aware, there is a high probability, that I have done something fundamentally wrong.... From your comments I read, that I am probably the only one experiencing these problems. So ....

However, how can I get a handle on this? Flatpak seems to handle things a bit different to "normal" RPI installation. so where can I find the log files and other stuff that might help getting to more information?

Sorry, for sure you are not there to educate people, however, it is faster to ask, then to dig through the whole system. If you please can give me some advice, I will either try to get the problem solved (if possible for me) or provide necessary information.

Thanks a lot for your help and understanding.

Best regards,

Uwe

If an average sailor is not able to run this software as it should run then there is probably something fundamentally wrong with the software! This software is announced as done by sailors and dedicated for use to sailors. Obviously that is not true.

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

Uwe, in the Toolbar there is normally a "?" In that menu you can copy the conf file and log file and save locally. Attach these to a message in this thread. See user manual FAQ at top to show how to attach the files that may have to be compressed and renamed.

Then look through the log file for the messages. Post one part directly into the thread.

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

Dear Rick,

first: Let me apologize for having you read to me what is so obvious in the toolbar.....

O.K. ....sorry that someone blieves to make remarks - I even wasn't tempted to comment ....

But now, yes, I see a number of errror messages in the logfile, after I "enabled" the plugins in question (they show up in the list with the "jigsaw" symbol)

I attach the files in question - the onee with ending "-1" are before and the ones with ending "-2" are after the enablement...

However, I will have a look around now myself and try to find out why these error messages occur. Let's see :-)

Thanks a lor for you patience and help - as always...

Best regards, Uwe

P.S.: I renamed them as .pdf bcause of filesize.....

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

Regarding these logs I would not recommend to use OpenCPN for Raspberry OS until there exists a clear installer for these OS which is usable by the average sailor to make a clean install.

Re: OS Raspberry specific RPI

Looking at the logs it seems OCPN is using wxWidgets 3.0.4 and the plugins are built for 3.1.2, this may be the compatibility issue. What is the correct version of wxWidgets for arm64 flatpak?
