Part of Chart Window Empty

Hi folks,
New to the forum and relatively new to OpenCPN. Hoping someone can shed some light on a view issue.

Until a few days ago charts appeared in the main window as you'd expect, filling the window. But while I was fiddling around configuring a GPS connection, somewhere along the line the chart view changed to only occupying about half the window. Below the chart is a wide black empty space, I assume it's black because I'm using the dark mode on a Mac Book Pro and it may be light in regular mode, either way it's empty.

Any ideas on what setting I may have inadvertently changed or a remedy to return to filling the window?

Thanks in advance

Phil

There is no setting that you changed that caused this, it is a bug.

Phil,

we have here very similar errors on our macMini.
This started with the update to macOS 10.14.5 last week.

What is your version? And if possible it would be interesting to see the Graphic chip used.

Ahh thanks guys, hopefully that gets sorted out. I'm running a new Mac Book Pro with OS X 10.14.5 and an Intel Iris Plus graphics card.

Cheers

FWIW

The same sort of end user issues happen on my 2014 mini and new macbook pro.

PR1417 helps a lot on both as does the other mac pr’s thanks Caesar

There are compiler and dependency issues as well.

Ron...

Would you mind to be at least somewhat specific about what issues you have detected?

Hi Pavel

somewhat specific ....

https://developer.apple.com/document..._notes#3035624

Xcode needs to be installed along with the command line tools. Most projects also need to install the header files.

E.g. Without the header files qt 5.12.3 fails to build.

Loading OpenCPN prerequisites as specified in the instructions and attempting to compile wxWidgets on a new macbookpro it simply fails to completely compile.

using same media copy of wx widgets used on an older machine with the same version kernel etc it compiles fine.

Both machines have graphics issues using the release version of OpenCPN

turning off opengl stops the problems.

Use a local compile of ov50 with pr 1415 1417 1418 1420 etc the problem is greatly reduced.

To create packages on macos something like http://s.sudre.free.fr/Software/Packages/about.html is needed.

As soon as i figure out what is breaking the compiler with this update i will advise

/Ron

Re: Part of Chart Window Empty

Would you please describe in detail how you try to compile wxWidgets and which version of wxWidgets?
Please step by step including the config details you are using.
Thank you.

Re: Part of Chart Window Empty

WildIslander, a possible workaround is to go into "options", then "display", then "advanced" and pertaining to graphics, turn off OpenGL. Of course this has its own disadvantages, but seems to help with this particular Mac-specific bug. It may be that once you get your screen filled back in, you can go back into options and turn on OpenGL again and be fine. For awhile.

Or I hear going back to a pre-bug version 4 something of OpenCPN is a solution as well.
