Plotting AIS data

I have come across OpenCPN whilst searching for a solution to a problem.

I am looking to plot some AIS data that I have saved onto a map. I see that OpenCPN allows you to play back VDR data and when you do so you seem to press play and there is a slider to determine at what speed to playback. There does not seem to be an option to see the whole route straight away and home in on a point of time in interest. ie you sail from A to C and you are interested to see what happens when you pass B.

Does anyone know if this is possible or if there is another solution? I saw that I can import the AIS data into google earth however I am looking for something that will allow me to plot the track onto a nautical chart.

Re: Plotting AIS data

Sorry...I do not have an answer to your question since I am still learning with my OpenCPN and AIS. But welcome to the forum anyways.

Re: Plotting AIS data

I've been busy but thought the Manual would help:
AIS [Opencpn]

Don't see any option for exporting the track, which might be possible, but that might be a feature request, what exactly do you need this for?

BTW the track is all in the VDR file, so you could edit it with Notepad++ and search and delete everything extraneous and you'd have the track.

Now I have a favor to ask. Can you help us with editing the User Manual. We need help with Plugins. CelestialSailor, I believe you're aware of the Celestial_nav plugin since this is an interest and skill? Would you be willing to review the documentation and make improvements?

Won't you become an Editor to advance OpenCPN?
You will learn while doing so..

Thanks.

Re: Plotting AIS data

Is there a way to filter specific incoming AIS using OpenCPn connections or Nmeaconverter plugin and then use VDR recorder to record the sole track?
Might be easier to edit file with search and replace.
