Re: plug ins not showing in 4.80, one one laptop, work on another?

So i think this might be difficult to nail down. It may be timing related. Would be interesting if anyone could run my patched version on a machine known to have the blank plugins tab. The plugins tab is populated differently than the other tabs which is a clue I think.

Also, I found a timing sensitive null pointer deref in the chart downloader plugin.

Re: plug ins not showing in 4.80, one one laptop, work on another?

Well thanks to all! I followed the simple suggestion from the other (FAQ) thread linked to. I uninstalled 4.8 totally, also logbook Konni and GE Geco pi or whatever, deleted the plugins folder and it's contents, installed 4.80 again fresh and when I saw it had the standard plug ins showing this time, I then downloaded logbook konni and GE again which duly appeared show in the plug in list and I enabled each in turn and now all is ''tickety boo.

Thanks again to all for input and patience for a doddery twit.

Robin3..
Glad you fixed it and thanks for the report.
Dave, t-dan..
For further tests we now have on machine left, my fellow user's. He's on vacation but he would be back any day. Should I ask him to test t-dan's debug patch or if we can met and I make some testing on his PC?

Re: plug ins not showing in 4.80, one one laptop, work on another?

I don't know what Dave has done but it is bad.
Formerly the plugin list in the plugin window of options settings shows the short description of plugins and the long description only when the field was activated but now it shows always the long description. That is very ugly.

Over the last times OCPN is getting worse.

Re: plug ins not showing in 4.80, one one laptop, work on another?

Just wondering if renaming the opencpn.ini file to opencpn.ini.old was tried so a new ini would be made to check if a corrupted ini was a problem?

Would be nice to known what plugin(s) is causing the issue. I see geocomapi (maybe misspelled) and logbookkoni often in these threads. Suspect one or both of these.

I feel sure we could code around it if we can corner it in a test environment.

Gerhard,

Your problem is completely unrelated to this thread topic and therefore inappropriate according to forum norms.

Also, you are wrong about how OpenCPN plugin page works. It shows the short description for a plugin that is not enabled. When you click on the plugin it shows the long description even if you don't enable it. If you don't enable it then when you click another plugin it reverts back to the short description. So nothing is broken or ugly or getting worse. Perhaps your private version of O is somehow broken.

Best regards,
Dan

Re: plug ins not showing in 4.80, one one laptop, work on another?

Hakan...

If you can get access to your friend's PC, I would suggest the following:

1. If it shows blank plugins panel, proceed slowly. Sneak up on it...

2. Capture the config file. Save it carefully.

3. Delete the runtime config file.

4. Verify that the "Program Files/ OpenCPN/plugins" directory has the correct files in it.

5. Start O, which will rebuild the config file, and see what happens.

6. If no joy on this, delete all plugin dlls except the 4 basic (as shipped) modules, and try again.

7. If still no joy, experiment with TDan's patch.

In the latest log studied, I see this suspicious line after logbookkonni.dll is loaded:

"Warning: Caught mainloop exception, continuing..."

I suspect trouble with logbookkonni.

Good Luck
Dave

Wrong, try the official OCPN version for macOS and you will see.

Because you don't have a Mac here are the screenshots of the official version and my version.

Sneak.... O freezes. I've to force it down from Windows.

I can try a new config. No problem. But there are no other plugin dll's, see shot below.

I will of course try TDan's debug patch. But in this case no logbookkonni is present.
Code:
16:18:52: PlugInManager searching for PlugIns in location C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN\plugins
16:18:52: Varning: Caught MainLoopException, continuing...
16:19:02: PlugInManager searching for PlugIns in location C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN\plugins
16:19:02: Varning: Caught MainLoopException, continuing...

Dave, on the other hand, if we don't believe in a successful bug finding I could also ask my friend to delete all O folders and restart. From his log file we can see some corrupted charts and some language files not found. It may be some user error so this issue may not be a good bug finding exercise?? See attached log file.

Are you sure there are no *_pi.dll files in any subfolders?

Where does the lines "16:18:52: Varning: Caught MainLoopException, continuing..." and "16:19:02: Varning: Caught MainLoopException, continuing..." come from? The word "Varning" is misspelled (correct "Warning") and is not found in the OpenCPN code.
A MainLoopException is only known for the Windows version of OCPN and its reason is:
Handle any exception not handled by CrashRpt
Most probable: Malloc/new failure

Is Microsoft not even capable to spell words correct?

No. Not at all, Good point!
But does "m_plugin_location" really include subdirectories?
