Microsoft windows 8. The OpenCPN screen comes on but that's it. I'm trying to get charts from Gulf Port to Panama R.P.

Are you trying to use chartdownloader?

Or are you unzipping downloads from noaa?

Vector or raster?/ enc or rnc?

Have you tried reading the chart section? Search on chartdownloader or installing charts.

It is possibly a simple path problem or perhaps you need to update and rescan the chart database which should always be done after a version upgrade.

You'll have to be more detailed and descriptive for us to help.

I am not familiar with "Panama R.P." but I assume Gulf Port is in Mississippi. OpenCPN has a chart download feature that can download and install all NOAA charts of US waters. You need Internet access on the Windows 8 computer. Have you tried that? If so, what exactly did you do and what exactly happened?

I downloaded OpenCPN and it's on the Desktop. When I click on the (CPN) logo a blue screen with a greenish map of the world appears, I can move the mouse and click on the bar on the top left corner and click on all the symbols and the bar lights up and only two remain black [the up/down arrows] Options come on and the display pops up and every box is checked except show grid & look ahead mode and I clicked OK. Then clicked charts and was able to load (C:\Users\Toms\Documents\OpenNauctialChart_files) and I did the same with (The free nauctial_chart files) Then I click on the chart down loader and a black folder showed
USA-NOAA and inland charts and a box pops up (chart source definition problem)
If I go to the OpenCPN Official Site, Using that I get (Oops! you've landed by mistake.)
What am I not doing right, ?

Tom,

If you already have chart files compatible with OpenCPN you don't need to use the chart downloader. Just add your already existing chart folders and click OK to close the options dialog. Then O will scan the existing folders and add all compatible charts. Any errors may show up in the opencpn.log file.
