Plugin AIS Radar : EBL ?

Hello Pavel, Hello All,

I saw that the version of the plugin "AIS Radar" was recompiled. So it is with this new version, I've updated the shoreline web site page for the plugin :
RAV : Radar-AIS View

Problem, in both modes "North up" and "Course up", the operation of the line EBL, obtained by checking the "EBL" is incomprehensible to me. As on the previous version.

There are no dedicated page for this plugin in the opencpn.org website. That could give me an explanation? Unless, there is a bug that explains the quirks.

Thank you in advance.

Gilletarom...
What do you mean by incomprehensible operation? To me it seems completely straightforward - it simply helps you to find the bearing from ownship to a place of your choice. Or are you asking something else?

Re: Plugin AIS Radar : EBL ?

Here is an english explanation of what Gilletarom wrote about "Heads up"

https://translate.google.com/transla...r_AIS_View.htm

I agree that it is a simple plugin and needs no instruction, but Gille has noticed a problem.
I have tried the plugin and thought EBL was working, but evidently there is some problem between heads up and he says "EBL Lin: There seems to be a bug with Heads up"

I was wondering if VRM could be added sometime after this is fixed.

Re: Plugin AIS Radar : EBL ?

hello Pavel

Thank you for responding to my post.

First, I propose a test in "North Up" mode (knowing OpenCPN is itself in North up mode)

in the screenshot attached below, we have:
- A boat sailing towards the east. Sometimes the boat is sailing at 89 or 91.
- A line that looks like an EBL.

It appeared from the beginning, as the boat navigauit north. She always announces 1st. And it never moves.

Note also that if:
- I disables the EBL box
- I reactivates the EBL box.
It always shows the same thing. Even if the boat changes direction or ...
Also note that while depends of the first value that will be displayed when launching the plugin for the first time. Once the set value, nothing can change ...
This is why I do not understand the operation of AIS radar in "Nort up". At which point, I suppose there is a small bug ...

Gilletarom...
I afraid there is still a little confusion...
With the EBL checkbox activated, click somewhere in the AIS Radar window. You should see the EBL and it's function should be obvious.

Re: Plugin AIS Radar : EBL ?

hello Pavel,

Oops ..... Pavel, I'm offended.

Never have I had the idea to click "randomly" on the screen! Plusieursfois and tried for several years. I repeat, never, even by accident, I had the idea to click this window!

So seen like that, it works. There is no bug!

That said, what is it for? really ?

I expected that this line shows the direction the boat. So I expected that at any moment, the line turns to the right or left, depending on changes in the COG of the boat. This expectation is it so absurd?

That said, I'll edit the web page of shoreline

Re: Plugin AIS Radar : EBL ?

In this very case you can use it to quickly get a bearing to a target. Imagine you are down bellow and want to tell someone above to visually confirm a target - using EBL you can get the bearing very quickly, without doing the mental math.

Pavel,

Indeed, it is a manual which I had not thought. I'll explain in this way on the shoreline page.

Thank you.

Re: Plugin AIS Radar : EBL ?

Gille I must confess I got a very big chuckle. Pavel in an incisive way "nailed it on the head" (colloquial - solved the problem) and I could not "fathom" (colloquial - understand) what the problem was! I am certain you would find me equally amusing if I were to try working in french! You must be very brave and I admire your questioning.

PS: Think of the EBL Electronic Bearing Lines in Ocpn_Draw. They are more versatile but similar.
