Re: Plugin: DashBoard

I can reproduce. MSW only. Doesn't need NMEA stream, only Dashboard showing.
Under debugger it crashes too. Call Stack is unfortunately useless :-(

Currently trying to verify that it's really Dashboard and no other change.

Oh, it's an over-free(), by the way. But I don't know of what.

I'm not at all sure that this relates to the original problem, but seems to fit in as a double free problem. I had been running for 1.5 hrs with the dashboard displayed. After going through a VDR track, own ship returned to the start, and I switched of the VDR.
Next I went to the route manager and deleted all tracks.
Back to the, now gray, ownship. A right click surprisingly brought up the track menu (I'm running an up to date master). I clicked "delete" and had a segfault.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Looks nice ...
I think you have to explain the difference between (True) Wind Angle
and (True) Wind Direction ...

Until now, direction meant where the wind is blowing from (i.e. compass rose --> NE) and "angle" was related to the boat axis (i.e. 120° port from the bow)

Now it seems this is vice versa ?

The dial "True Wind Angle" now shows the compass rose, but definitely displays wrong data.

Please compare the 2 screenshots. It plays the same VDR file, the old style is correct, the new is wrong !

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

The problem is with the TrueWindAngle instrument (the one using the compass rose). I don't know what the problem is but while adding 1 instrument at a time failure occurred after adding TrueWindAngle. Failure still requires 55 minutes.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

OK, the Compass instrument also caused failure. Maybe the problem is in DrawCompassRose.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

OK I have found and corrected the crash problem. It was a GDI handle leak affecting all circular dial instruments. The fix is in master.

This problem is now hopefully sorted, both the naming and the data mixup.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Hi Jesper,

sorry, data mixup isn't sorted, it's even worth, see the 2 screenshots.
The old style is from beta 919 and correct.

The new style is wrong :
* text based instruments for True Wind Angle and App Wind Angle :
the direction indicators are missing and both show identical values !
* True Wind Direction now has an indicator ??

* dial instrument with compass rose (True Wind Direction) : based on the sample file I sent you this morning, true wind direction was 50-60° (NE)
* dial instrument +-180° (True Wind Angle & Speed): the angle based on the boat axis was ~110°

The mixup thing that got sorted in that patch was True and Apparent angle now shows the same value in the numeric and in the dial. Before it was backwards. If the data is right or wrong that's J-E's ballpark :-)

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Is it possible to download the dashboard dll alone from somewhere? I dont see it on the OCPN plugin download page.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

The Dashboard pi is part of the standard O installer, so there is not separate download. And the new plugin depends on modifications in the core so you can't run it with the currently available versions.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Wow! Looks like you are addressing one of the feature requests I had asked for. Only improvement I can think of is the dual needle I mentioned here: http://opencpn.org/ocpn/flyspray/ind...ct=6&pagenum=2

On the other hand if you have the predictor line and the heading line showing from the ship on the chart it is really good enough!

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Hi Paul,

Interesting idea... I was thinking of something slightly different: the compass rose could show COG and the boat drawing HDG. I've created the appropriate dial in just a few lines of code but I don't have any NMEA sample to test with.
Can you record (with the VDR plugin for example) a few minutes of NMEA stream with both HDG and COG sentences and send it to me please?

Thanks,
Jean-Eudes
