Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Seems pretty good, however a bit busy for everyday use. Obviously you would want to be able to turn on/off various sections of that dashboard. One other very useful feature is an average "bug" on the dials. This is really nice for things like wind direction where the value from the wind vane may be shifting around a lot with gusts and the boat pitching through the waves, but is useful on all dials. It should be a user defined amount of time to average the values for to add the bug.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Hello all...
I'm now lazy and ask for info instead of rolling through ever post about Dashboard, my simple search gave no result. I haven't been particularly involved before since I had no available signals to OCPN. Today I found a spare port on my Simrad IS15 so now I'm in this item as well. So....
When a instrument, say wind, for any reason stop sending data the Dashboard value is frozen. Has it been discussed to adapt a time-out and shift in a default, e.g. zero, value instead?
Thanks
Håkan

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

I think I would prefer that a timed out instrument keep the last known value, but the whole instrument would grey out to let you know it is no longer current.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Paul..
Personally I can't figure out a reason for a frozen value. I mean a 30 minutes or so old sounding must be of less value? But I agree the important point is to without doubts be able to recognise that a shown figure is either out of date or irrelevant.

But my task was actually if earlier discussions in this matter have come to any conclusions. And i can't imagine else then it's been discussed?

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

All..
As earlier indicated I would like to have a wind and depth data time out implemented for the Dashboard.
The main motive is to not being fouled by irrelevant soundings in case of cable or sounder failures while approaching shallow waters. But also outdated wind figures would be of less interest.

I think all GPS dependent instrument in the Dashboard are affected by the timer “gps_watchdog_timeout” normally set at 6 sec.
The depth and wind data are not affected by the same watchdog. The reason may be clear. We should not disturb GPS data by letting absence of depth or wind data force the GPS watchdog to run out.

Instead I suggest a new timer watching over depth and wind messages but else coded as of the GPS watchdog. A timer run out could have the same effect as of GPS figures, e.g. hyphen or zero out. To satisfy different opinions for how long time a frozen figure shall stand the timer set could be editable in the configuration file or from dashboard’s window of preferences.

Comments and discussions about this suggest are of course appreciated.
Not less if we should handle this suggests here or I put it into Flyspray?

Thanks
Håkan

Maybe I am missing something, but is there a way to display Depth in feet instead of meters?

The NMEA stream shows both values present, but the plugin only displays meters and I don't see a way to change it?

Sorry if I missed something obvious.

I am on 3.2.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

No there is not. I am hoping that sometime we will be able to select Units in User Preferences and have that Global setting be transferred to each of the plugins as an external parameter.

I think I have asked for this in Flyspray several weeks ago, and voted for it. I think your request and in answer to Hakan's question, his request should also be entered into Flyspray!!!
I'll vote for it too.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard - Extension with VLW (Sum Log / Trip Log)

Hi All,

Many thanks for all the good work. OpenCPN and also the DashBoard plugin works great for me (Raymarine environment with SP 4000+, Tridata and wind Instrument).

But I dentified that the VLW NMEA sentence was not supported.

I have updated the DashBoard souces to accept now also VLW messages and Show instruments for Trip Log and Sum Log Information.

I would be happy to share the updates for review/coments, but the forum does not allow uploads of zip-files. Any suggestions?

I'm not really familiar with GIT/Flyspray...

Regards,

Homberger

Homberger...
It's not that hard to learn to work with git & github Anyway, rename the archive from .zip to .zip.doc and you will be able to upload it here (just the source code should be well bellow the limit of the forum for .doc attachments) and post here - I will merge it to the master.

Thanks

Pavel

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Pavel,

Many thanks for the help. Updated sources are attached.

The Trip Log instrumernt has been tested last weekend on the boat. The current files contain also the Sum Log Instrument (for completeness). Compiled without Problems, but not tested live.
