Problems with opening Open CPN

Hi!
I have a problem when opening OpenCPN first time. Get the message "unexpectedly terminated" ("unerwartet beendet" in German).
Because I use the older OS 10.6.8 on my MacBook I tried all the older versions of the program, e.g. 3.2.2 and lower.
Also cancelled the ad-blocker in safari and tried also opening with firefox. Always get the same message.
If I use the programm (e.g. 4.0.0) on my office-MacMini the program works perfect. But this I can't use on the boat.

Can anybody help me?

Snow Leopard doesn't work. You need at last Lion.
What kind of MacBook do you have?
Why you are not able to update to Lion or greater?

Gerhard

BTW: Support for Snow Leopard has stopped in September 2011, nearly 4.5 years ago...

I don't understand, what are you trying to open with safari or firefox?
OpenCPN is not a web application.

Hi Gerhard,
Thanks for reply. I use a MacBook 4,1, Intel 2,4 Ghz, OS 10.6.8. Updating should work. Just tried to use OpenCPN with my running system. Using Safari or Firefox just meant the way of downloading.
Greeting Peter/Violet

I'm not sure if an update from old Snow Leopard is still available. Usually these updates are free from Apple, but when I look at the App Store today there is no Lion (next version after Snow Leopard) anymore but only Sierra which does not work with your MacBook. As the docs for MacBook4,1 say, also Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite and El Capitan will not work with your MacBook.
So I guess you have only 2 solutions:
Try to get Lion for your MacBook, it should work until version 10.7.5.
If you cannot get it anymore give me a note. I have an archive of Lion. But if you install Lion you cannot run PowerPC software anymore because Rosetta is missing.
The other solution is to use an old version of OpenCPN with all the pain it has at this time. The old versions for Mac have been very instable. Jean_pfoumf said it should run however. You may find it at:
https://topperdiek.de/dl/ocpn/ Look for "OpenCPN Mac ALT" version 3.3.1824 from June 2014.
Hope this helps.

Gerhard

Peter,
if you want to go this way I can upload Lion to my server, so you are able to get it there. However it is 3.77 GigaBytes and takes some time for me to upload.

Hello Gerhard, problem is solved!

Many thanks for your offer but I managed to get 3.3.1824 and it works!!! So in the coming saison I try to get used to this version (Which I intend to use behind my old plotter with c-maps). Mean while I have a look how to go on with Lion. Is always bad to change a running system. Any way - you helped me a lot. Many thanks again.

Greetings Peter/Violet
