Program Crash

Just had OpenCPN (most current version) crash on my macbook pro. Lost 22 routes I’d been working on all day. Any chance there’s a way to recover these routes?

Re: Program Crash

OpenCPN is keeping back-up copies of the navobj file which contains routes, waypoints etc.

You can use for example navobj.xml.1 (rename it to navobj.xml) and see up to which point your routes are present. Make back-up copies of your original navobj.xml before. Or rename it to navobj.xml.0
Always with OpenCPN closed when working on configurations...

There is a chapter in the manual about this feature IIRC.

Re: Program Crash

If you were working non stop on your 22 routes, without restarting, the file to look for is called "navobj.xml.changes". This file survives a crash, but not a restart! When restarting "navobj.xml.changes" is overwritten with a blank file, but the old "navobj.xml.changes" is merged into the file"navobj.xml" file.
Bottom line is that you should be OK, fingers crossed...

Re: Program Crash

Thank you both. Unfortunately, there are no NAVOBJ files on my computer. I did a few global searches of my drive and nothing. Guessing the program restarted after the crash.

Re: Program Crash

They are there. A reset does not purge them.

Use the help button, the "?" and it will tell you, where your configuration file resides.
The navobj files are in the same directory, on macOS generally User --> library --> preferences --> opencpn

It might happen that the Finder on your mac is hiding system files. A setting you can revert.
