question: charts on android SD card

I've been playing with OpenCPN on my laptop and decided to download the $9 app to my Android phone (an LG G4 phone). No issues with the installation. I then copied some raster charts from the OpenCPN directory of my laptop to my phone's SD card. When I select "Charts p> Add Directory", I see that by default it goes to "/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/org.opencpn.opencpn/files". So far, I have been unable to navigate to my SD card. I tried clicking on the ".." folder several times, but never made it high enough in the directory structure to slide over to the SD card. I tried the "New" button on the "Add A Directory" screen, but it does not give me the option to use the SD card, and it locks up the OpenCPN program. Any suggestions?
