scottburch...
The only way to know is if you can get your hand on a HD+ and try. OCPN and radar_pi is for free, just your time. Seen anyone in a boat around? Purchase on approval (may not be easy, I know)

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Hello,

This may be have been asked in another thread but in in the Falkland's on a hotspot and the internet is worse than 1990's dial up .

I can not get the RadarPI to work on the windows 10 laptop. When I go to the open radar screen where it shows it is looking for the radar it scans back and forth between 2 IP addresses. No radar detected. Opn Gl is installed as well as everything else needed

So I checked the device manager and the USB to ethernet is recognized and named .

this is where I am lost. So I installed the current version OpenCpn 5 on my MacBook along with the Radar PI plugin in and the radar works.

I then took the usb c to ethernet that I was using on the MacBook and tried it on the Windows laptop, Again the device manger recognizes it but it doesn't work. the USB device manager shows packets sent but non received

What am I doing wrong? Is there some other setting that is blocking Could there be some firewall setting I am not aware of? Im not the most software savy guy .

Internet here is very difficult to get to and super slow. so any help would be appreciated .
I really need to get this to work on the Windows Laptop ( I have a aversion to Ice bergs)

Thanks for any help

@Lamadriver,

Good news is that you have a working setup so we can rule out the network switch, radar, etc.

My guess is the Windows firewall. Just disable it completely. If that works, you could also make a rule specifically for OpenCPN.exe and re-enable the firewall.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Hi,
From reading the previous posts I understand that no one has got a Furuno radar working yet and no one appears to be currently working on it.
If this is the case I am happy to put in the time but I will be learning on the go. Are there major obstacles with this approach (ie, my lack of experience), is there another reason that no one has got Furuno working yet?

bborchardt...

Simple answer:
No active developer has access to a compatible Furuno candidate scanner and MFD.

To start, one would need to examine the Wireshark capture of a simple radar session. This is done by "T"-ing into the network cable, and excercizing the scanner using the existing MFD.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Thanks Dave,
I am happy to have a go at the Furuno radar.
I won't be back on the boat until late Jan 2020 so in the meantime I will try to up to speed with requirements.

Cheers

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

First steps you can do already:

1. Fork the plugin source code at https://github.com/opencpn-radar-pi/radar_pi
2. Add Furuno baseline by copying one of the existing radars. Match the features that your radar has with one of the existing ones.
3. Work up your 'C++', 'git' and 'tcp snooping' skills.

Note: Furuno has made a lot of digital interfaced radars, so make sure you don't claim that it works with any other type than your own. What radar do you have?

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Thanks Merrimac,
Unfortunately I don't know what model it is and I won't be able to verify until I'm back on the boat next year.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Does anyone know if Radar plugin v5.0.0 support the new Halo20+ ? I am considering purchasing one but do not want something that is not supported. I would possibly revert to the 4G if not.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

https://github.com/opencpn-radar-pi/radar_pi
"This is a work in progress. It will support Navico Broadband and Halo radars as well as Garmin xHD and possibly others. It is meant as the community effort to only write the common parts of radar support once."

I don't think there is any experience with Halo20+, but perhaps Hakan knows.

Hakan, BTW. The link in this README page to the Opencpn Radar Plugin manual is 404.

"You will need the general preconditions for building OpenCPN from http://opencpn.org/ocpn/developers_manual ."

It should be

Kalimera..
Most Halo are tested but the exact difference between Halo20 and Halo20+ is yet unknown. The + variant will most probably work as expected but there can be additional functions not yet prepared for in radar_pi.
Whenever such additional features comes up to this table it will be possible to solve. The easiest way is of course to compare available features between a Navico MFD and radar_pi if such a opportunity is present.
merrimac has most experience of the Halo types but is, what I know, out on the blue for the very moment.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

I have pushed a new v5.0.4beta6 release of radar_pi. This version brings some corrections. Among others a hanging situation on close is corrected and the recognition of Halo radars is improved. The Windows install package can be found at https://ci.appveyor.com/api/buildjob...ov50-win32.exe
For some reason appveyor currently does not generate Mac OS packages.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

I have a Getac windows tablet win 10 pro 64 bits. I installed opencpn 5.0 and radar pi, opengl is checked.
The radar is recognised, got an ip address but will not get a navigation panel to work with the radar.
Is it possible that your pi radar plugin is 32 bits or maybe the opengl driver of the intel graphic card. I have a I5 intel 5200U CPU. On the other laptop with win 10 home and intel I-7-4500U CPU no problem at all, working flawless. Or is the possible problem caused by the pro version of windows 10?
