Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

rramsey..
There seems to be some IP address mismatches in your text but...
First of all I should have tried to connect the radar scanner wired directly to the PI. So instead of connecting the radar to the router take the same cable to the PI instead. Or a cable from the router's switch ports to the PI. A wifi router is normally not a good idea for the radar data communication.
See more here: https://github.com/opencpn-radar-pi/...lation-(Navico)

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

That works Hakan. Thanks ... should have thought of that myself.

One more Q though ... any way to change font sizes of the menus? They are rather large so menus drop off the screen.

Cool plug-in by the way!

rramsey..
Thanks for the report, good to see.

re:"One more Q though ... any way to change font sizes of the menus? They are rather large so menus drop off the screen."
Try change the OCPN "Dialog" font: Options->User Interface->Fonts [Dialog]->Change font.... On my Pi I use "Regular" 12.
It may be you've to reinitialize radar_pi to get effect of the change. e.g. restart O.

If you get HDM or HDG into OCPN the plugin WMM_pi will support the HDT if needed. Be sure to have that plugin activated.
If have HDM and HDG in OpenCPN and WMM_pi activated, but no HDT appears in OpenCPN NMEA0183 stream . Do I need to do something else beside just activating the WMM_pi plugin?

Thanks for your help!

Dos..
re: " but no HDT appears in OpenCPN NMEA0183 stream"
I'm not sure what you mean with this.

If you are using the NMEA debug window to check incoming NMEA streams you'll see the received HDM and HDG that's clear. But when WMM creates a HDT it will not bee sent to any NMEA stream visible by the NMEA Debug window. The calculated HDT will though be used by OCPN and plugins asking for it, like radar_pi.
One way you can detect the calculated HDT is by Dashboard and use the instrument "True HDG" and maybe compare with "Mag HDG".
Another way is in radar_pi where you can see used HDT in the "Info" window.

If I misunderstood your question please come back.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Hej HALO owners !
I was searching for quite a while but it seems nobody had this issue before, so I hope someone could give me a hint,
I use my HALO 20 with OpenCPN on a Raspberry PI.
It works like a charm!
Since spring of this year there is a firmware update out for the HALO Radars 20/20+/24 which I like to get on my HALO20.
To update the HALO firmware there are unfortunately only descriptions available by using a B&G/SIMRAD/Lowrance Display which I do not own.
So maybe someone knows a way to upgrade the firmware by using a Windows Laptop?
Thanks for letting me know :-)

A secret hint:
Never change a running system.
When it runs OK for you why you want to change the firmware?

Hi there

Getting a stable Radar video on the PPI is one thing, I would say it is basic. But using a Radar is also about safety at sea. So targets may be shown in the video presentation or supressed together with the sea clutter. This also depends on the processing performance of the Radar firmware. If the manufacturer thinks he needs to optimize this performance then I like to benefit from it, if possible.
Cheers
Sixten

P.S: Please also share other secrets with me

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Sixten..
Before you make to big efforts on this try to find out if the update would give you any specific benefits. (It may be related to the MFD program interface only??)

If it's worth the pressure you unfortunately have to find someone with a MFD to carry out the update. That kind of software isn't implemented in radar_pi. In case there are some hacked Windows tools for this I personally wouldn't dare to try.

Hejk Håkan.
Next I will try to investigate about the potential benefits as you said,
If they are worth it I will try to find some sailor let me connect my HALO to his system. I just hoped that there is a way to work around it.
Thank you very much for sharing your view!
Best regards
Sixten

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Hi.
I have to buy a radar Lowrance Halo 20+ and connect at my pc by ethernet RJ45.
The reseller has write at technical manager of Lowrance Italy and Lowrance has respond that the radar is not compatibile with OpenCPN.

Posted from Marco Bevilaqua - Lowrance Italia:
Hi Luigi, sorry I'm late but I preferred to ask my colleagues in Holland for a bit.
They told me that OpenCPN is a program that has not been tested so they don't guarantee it will work.
The developers of the OpenCPN software are them and not us, they only took the libraries from us. I don't think they have adapted Halo 20+ yet as the SDk was recently released.
The Dutch guy does not recommend it as he has three 4g radars connected to this program which are broken because the program makes them work out of standard.
Thanks
Marco Bevilacqua.

What should I do ? Can the Lowrance Halo 20+ radar be connected with the ethernet cable to a switch and then connected to a PC with Windows 10?

Thank you for a reply

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Luca..

Can you please ask who is the person in charge for Navico/Lowrance in the Netherlands who did reply?
And don't accept "somebody".

There is a wrong asserts:
"they only took the libraries from us."
The plug-ins does not use any library from Navico.

What Marco Belviquaca is telling I would call "rumors from somewhere". If a user of OpenCPN would have be confronted with a broken 4G radar most probably at least some would have turned up here.

Details and not "they told me....."

Very simple proposal: Marco shall install OpenCPN and the plug-in and test. Does not cost money, just his time as he shall have the radar at hand. And then report back.

Plus having an opportunity to sell more radars to OpenCPN users :-)

I think it is all self-serving hearsay, as many others have had different experience.

Re: Radar plugin v5.0.0 released

Thank you for the replies.
I have already asked Lowrance Italia for further compatibility specifications and to find out who the "Dutch guy" is
Is there anyone who can confirm the use of the Lowrance Halo 20+ radar and that it works well?
