Raspberry Pi and BU-353S4 USB GPS Antenna

Has anyone had experience using the Global Sat BU-353S4 USB GPS antenna with the Raspberry Pi based version of OpenCPN?

I am a newbie here. My techie son suggested replacing my dying chartplotter with an open source system at much reduced cost and gave me a Pi for my birthday. I have a basic system set up for the boat - all I needed was a way for it to know where I was, so I purchased a BU-353S4 as it had good reviews.

When I open OpenCPN everything seems to be working OK up to the point the antenna acquires the GPS satellite signal. At that point the screen turns black and the whole system freezes.

When the system boots up everything checks out OK except for one error message:
There are serial connections with no alias assigned:
OpenCPN -> Connection ID : 2 I device: /dev/ttyUSB0
I'm guessing I haven't installed the antenna correctly to interface with the OpenCPN software.

Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Raspberry Pi and BU-353S4 USB GPS Antenna

My pi setup used "/dev/ttyACM0" (that's a zero, not the letter "O") for the U-blox7 GPS. Still using that same data port with OpenCpn on a Thinkpad laptop running Linux Mint. . No issues. Previously had a Garmin GPS hooked up to the laptop through a serial to USB converter, that one used the /dev/ttyUSB0 data port.
