Question Raspberry Pi install plugin problems

Hello,
I recently began experimenting with OpenCPN on a Raspberry Pi and I have an issue getting plugins to show up in the Options > Plugins list. For example, the OpenCPN Installer shows that I have Logbook Konni Plugin installed (managed by OpenCPN), but when I go to enable it in OpenCPN, it is not in the list.

The installer shows many different plugins as managed by OpenCPN in the installer but I only have 5 in the plugins list within OpenCPN (GRIB, ObjSearch, WMM, ChartDownloader, and Dashboard). Is there something I need to do to get the others available?

Re: Raspberry Pi install plugin problems

If you are using the new Managed plugins you will need to
1. Update the plugin catalog:master
2. Select Logbook
3. Download the new version from within Options Plugins, wait for confirming message.
4. Then install it from within Options plugins and wait for confirmation.

Linux may be a little different from Windows.

Re: Raspberry Pi install plugin problems

Thanks for the quick response, rgleason.

When I hit the 'Update Plugin Catalog Master' button I get an alert box saying it was successful but no new plugins are added to the list.

Re: Raspberry Pi install plugin problems

Just for info I tried it on my RPi4.
Updated master catalog.
Further down in the not installed list is the Loggbook icon. I installed and then activated that plugin.
The result as of attached picture.

It looks like we have the same situation. Thanks for pointing me toward your post, jean_pfoumf.

Thanks Hakan, are you running a 32-bit version RPi4? I purchased the 8GB which has 64-bit architecture.

Re: Raspberry Pi install plugin problems

If your list of plugins in opencpn under Linux -ubuntu, Debian, Raspi-OS. etc.- do not appear as a list or cannot be downloaded it is almost certain that a couple of data from the opencpn configuration file have been lost.

The opencpn configuration file should start this way:

But if you have the problem with the plugins almost surely will look like this other one:

Just write the missing data by hand and save the changes. After restarting opencpn you should be able to install the plugins like everybody else. Don't make a mistake. Ubuntu should be written as it is, with the initial capital letter.

The configuration file - in the case of the rpi - is located in /home/pi/.opencpn/opencpn.conf

To be able to see it you must activate the hidden file view since the folder that contains it .opencpn begins with a dot.

The easiest way to edit it is by opening a terminal and entering the command:

nano .opencpn/opencpn.conf

After adding the missing items, save the changes with the key combination Ctrl+o and exit with Ctrl+x

Mine is a armv7l so a 32 bits and that can be a significant difference explaining your trouble. I think there are some work on this issue.

Important: close OpenCPN before editing the conf. If not, on closing next time, OCPN will just save the active configuration, voiding your updates on the local copy.

Thanks for this, pinguino, it partially helped. It did allow the plugin manager to show additional plugins and I was able to add a couple of those (such as Watchdog), but I was unable to find several plugins in that list, such as the Logbook Konni Plugin. It is still listed in the OpenCPN Installer list and stated as managed by OpenCPN.

Excellent tip, bcn. I noticed that the changes I made to the conf file were being overwritten if OpenCPN was open when I made the change. Now to figure out how to get the rest of the plugins available that are still missing.

It is important to know that not all plugins are available at the same time on all systems.

In Rpi the logbook konni plugin is also not available. It is simply not yet built for Rpi. As they are builded they are added to the list of available plugins.

If you need it you can try to build it yourself.

Wait a little. I'm wrong about something.. Give me a while.

.... The first thing I have to tell you is that I have another opencpn installation on a different SD card and it doesn't behave the same. In this other one the references to Ubuntu and 18.04 are not in the configuration file and still the plugin installer works fine. That makes me wonder -and ask you- if you are using the most updated version of opencpn. I think that in this newer version the file references are no longer necessary. And also the list of plugins is bigger and includes the Logbook.

I have also seen that you can still install the logbook the old way with:

sudo apt install opencpn-plugin-logbookkonni

But the right thing at this point would be to use the plugin manager since it installs a more recent version.

Make sure you have the latest version of opencpn and try to remove what I told you before, or better yet, delete or move to another place -as a backup- the configuration file so that opencpn starts as brand new and check if with the updated version everything goes as it should.

Sorry....
I edit again to add more... the difference is that in one SD I have Raspi-OS and in the other I have Raspi-gnome64.

It's already clear what the problem is. In the 64bits version you do need the reference to Ubuntu and 18.04. Also there are less plugins available than for the 32bits version. The only option in your case is to try to build the plugin from the sources.
