Raymarine?

Hello
we have two raymarine MFD's, Radar and Fusion radio running on a cat5e (RJ45) network, i think this is running raymarine's version of NMEA2000, can i use a spare port on my network switch to connect the opencpn to this network? i currently get the NMEA0183 data via usb but this doent have the ais data.

thanks

Re: Raymarine?

paul..
I lot if...:
If the MFD transmit NMEA0183 over the IP net you can most probably use it. If only N2k, NMEA2000, it's of no use for OCPN.
If NMEA0183 you need to know:
If UDP you need to know the port used.
If TCP you need to know the IP address and the port.
If above is OK you can connect to the switch.
If the MFD serves an IP address via DHCP you'll get one. Connect and try! If not you need to know the IP segment and give your PC a manual IP address in that segment, e.g. "192.168.1.xxx"

Re: Raymarine?

Thanks for your help, I think its only transmitting the NMEA2000, I will plug it in and see what happens but i might need to wait for opencpn to read nmea2000.

Re: Raymarine?

OCPN will not parse N2k in any near future. Not less since it's a proprietary protocol expensive to use.

What you can do is to use some N2k to NMEA0183 converters, like Actisence, yacht digital, and/or have look at the TwoCan plugin. Here's a start.
It may not be found straight forward but with interest and curiosity you'll find out.

Re: Raymarine?

Although not for free a device like this would fit for that: https://www.yachtd.com/products/usb_gateway.html.
But here are more similar on the market.
