Recommend a gps puck for an m1 mac

Read about all the driver issues with BU353S4. And that was on high sierra- i cant imagine anyone getting it to work with sonoma. How about the columbus pro p7 or the bad elf flex miini? Which receiver would connect to openCPN on an m1 mac without headaches?

Re: Recommend a gps puck for an m1 mac

I just went through this on an M1 Macbook Pro running Sonoma 14.2.1. I had no luck getting a BU353S4 to work, either with the driver that came with the device of with any drivers I found online. I bit the bullet and bought the Bad Elf Flex Mini and can confirm that it works perfectly when connected via USB-C. BT connection with the Macbook resulted in spotty connection but USB is 100% reliable. I've had the Bad Elf connected to the Macbook (via USB) and to my iPad and iPhone, and it will feed GPS data to all three devices simultaneously.

I recommend the Dual XGPS160 especially made for Apple. It is feeding 5 devices simultaneously and offers GNSS as well as Glonass.

Thank you for your replies. If bluetooth is reliable, then it would be preferable since I could keep the laptop below deck and put the receiver (with its antenna) outside for better reception. But it is the bluetooth connection that gave me pause. That said, the reviews for the Dual XGPS160 say that it has no issue with BT so I'll try it.

? GNSS is the generic abbrevation for "Global Navigation Satellite Systems"

GLONASS is one the the GNSS systems - as are GPS, Beidou , Galileo et al.
