Route Planning Using Existing Waypoints

I've used OpenCPN for getting on 15K miles and I love it.

Over the course of my passages I have built up quite a number of waypoints, some of which are used often, some less so.

I have not yet worked out how to create a route by selecting waypoints from the waypoint list into the route manager.

Is this possible? Using the route manager to hover over WPs on the chart is less than ideal sometimes and it would be nice if I could create the route from a list of names.

Re: Route Planning Using Existing Waypoints

Already discussed here. It appears that the capability doesn't exist, nor do many people seem to think it's an appropriate feature. Since I asked for it, you can assume that I don't agree

It would be a very desirable feature indeed. Didn't quite make my top three for the most desirable features thread, but it is up there close to number 4.

Re: Route Planning Using Existing Waypoints

Yes, I deliver a lot of boats, different starting and finishing points but often using a combination of waypoints, over distances that may span 1000+ miles so there is often the added complication of rescaling the charts as I am doing it.

Using the route drawing tool is a pain! Many chartplotters allow you to create a route from the waypoints already held in memory and it would be very convenient to be able to do this in OpenCPN.

I think OpenCPN is a a fantastic program, it could be even better!

If you have Google Earth then I'd recommend it for early planning. Pick the 'Ruler' Option and you can keep track of distance as you pick along a coast line or across an ocean. A great help in setting day sail, or assessing stores req'd. Once a course is chosen the LatLong can be read off the bottom of the screen and fed in directly if of-shore, or used as a guide for inshore route plotting.

Really don't see how that addresses the problem raised.................
