RPI 3 not loading BSB charts

My RPI loads the old Cm93 charts perfecrly and are working fine on Ocpn

Upon loading a new folder with only BSB (kap & bsb extensions) charts , OpenCpn goes throught the motions of loading the chart folders showing on screen, BUT they don't list in Cpn
I removed all charts folders, reboot Cpn, -->Loaded the BSB folder but no charts are showing.
Yet the BSB charts work fine in Windows, that means that the charts are nor corrupted.
Is there a solution as to why the BSB's don't show in Ras Pi 3?

Re: RPI 3 not loading BSB charts

There's no general reason raster charts won't work on the RPi if they are working on Win.
Try:
- Check the OCPN Charts->Charts files are showing the correct folder and the files are really present if you use the file manager.

- Select again "Scan charts and update database" and "Force full Database Rebuild" -> OK.

- Open right mouse click menu and check if you have "Chart groups". If so select ""All active charts"

- Use keyboard "O" or right hamburger menu "Show chart outlines". Are there any red squares indicating the presence of the raster charts. If so center the screen view into one of them and zoom in. (While in the hamburger menu also check "Enable chart quilting" is selected)

- Are there any blue rectangles in the screen bottom bar? If so click one of them.

- Still no chart shown? See the log file for notes about loading charts.

1)Yes, the actual charts are showing in Cpn "Chart files" , shows both directories (Cm93 included)
2)Force full data rebuilt: Done this twice, am getting the same result, eg only showing a yellow bar
3)Yes all directories are showing in CHART GROUPS
4)No blue rectangles only a full yellow bar
5)Yes Quilting and "chart outlines ' are still checked
6)Probably a stupid question, but "Where is the log located"? Sorry, am very unfamiliar with LInux/RPi

Apart from the raster charts not showing , I am getting AIS data on screen via wifi. This btw has always worked fine

Just to be sure:
5)Yes Quilting and "chart outlines ' are still checked.
>> And no red rectangles where the raster chart would cover? >> Zoom!

The log file location is shown with a link by the "?" in the left toolbar.
or

On the Pi it use to be at: /home/pi/.opencpn (Mind the dot! You must show hidden files. Either select in the file manager or shortcut Ctrl-H)

NO red rectangles( chart outlines) showing-- Zoom in still nothing..
FYI I've been using Cpn for many years but only on Windows XP-7-10
(In win I can find anything, but this Linux stuff has a file hierarchy that does not make any sense, to me.. ...so far anyway)

I found the log file--> what line(s) am i looking for? I am looking at 1800+ lines covering the last 2 hours

Re: RPI 3 not loading BSB charts

in /home/pi/.opencpn your are looking for "opencpn.log" no folders. But you found the log the other way.
You need a log file for the time you added the raster chart files to OCPN database. If you've that post it here. But to be able to upload it here make a copy of the file and change the file name to a pdf >> "opencpn.log.pdf"

BTW: As a "native" Win user a can partly agree about your Linux comments. But don't tell the developers here

Hakan,

I deleted ALL the charts in Cpn
Than I loaded only the BSB chart file.

(As before CPn goes through the motions, yet no charts to be seen on screen)
I saved the log from that time on as a .txt file, as it originally did not have any extension.

The log shows that it cannot load the charts..
"Could not read first 1999 bytes of header for chart file:" FOR every chart in the folder

Re: RPI 3 not loading BSB charts

@pendragon
Please read your log yourself!
You see e.g.: "check_cm93 opened dir OK" which points to /home/pi/Documents/Charts/NZ-Charts-Jan22
But this folder has no cm93 charts!!!

Obviously you have not installed correct your charts.
Read the OpenCPN manual how to install charts please.

BTW: You should have a file called "chartlist.dat". Delete it before trying again installing your charts.

This probably implies that either all your KAP charts were damaged or there is a permission problem.
Check the above or simply use the chart downloader to get a new set.

I get from raspberry 3 the following:

bash: /home/pi/Documents/Charts/NZ-Charts-Jan22/NU131: Is a directory

I get from Ubuntu the following: (Dual boot Win7 & Ubuntu)

adrian@adrian-T410:~$ ls -l /home/adrian/Documents/Charts/NZ-Charts-Jan22/NU131

Re: RPI 3 not loading BSB charts

We still would like to see the output of
Code:
ls -la /home/pi/Documents/Charts/NZ-Charts-Jan22/NU131
from the raspberry pi to be able to start discarding your possible problems, you tried to "execute" a path to the directory, which of course did not do anything useful, instead of running the command Dave asked you to run...
Even on your notebook the permissions on the chart are wrong (way too permissive, the charts are certainly not executable programs), but that does not prevent stuff from working.

pendragon...
Pretty clear that your rPI-3 system has problems with the ~/Documents/Charts directory. Hard to say from here what the files system problem is.

I would delete that directory, and reload the charts into something like "~/Charts".

Dave

Yet, the file system , as is. has no problems with the Cm93 charts as they list OK and work as per normal, but BSb's have a problem.

I normally download NZ charts updates as a zip file(these are generally less than 2 weeks old) compared to using Cpn to downloading them, which are 3 months old.

But I'll do as you suggest , stick everything in the Charts dir
