RSA Sentence. Rudder angle not shown

Hi.

I´m using Opencpn with my Raymarine S1G/6001 Autopilot. i have filtered the output from the pilot so i can use APRSA and APHDM to show heading and rudder angle in ocpn. These are also filtered from ocpn output of course.

Opcpn is showing the heading but i cant get it to show the Rudder angle.

Any ideas to why it wont show it??..

Best Regards

Kenny

Re: RSA Sentence. Rudder angle not shown

I am not familiar with your autopilot, but I looked up the manual. The manual says it has NMEA input only, no NMEA output. So unless you have a Seatalk-NMEA converter, you will not be able to pull any data out of your autopilot.

If you do have such a converter, then your problem may be with the converter. Also, are you sure you have a rudder sensor? Does rudder angle display on the control head?

As always, a VDR recording can assist in diagnosis.

Re: RSA Sentence. Rudder angle not shown

Hi

Maybe i havent been clear the Autopilot Computer is a Raymarine S1G and the Control head is called ST6001.

All the Nmea connections are ok and i can se the output sentences from the pilot in Ocpn. The pilot outputs two sentences APHDM (Heading) and APRSA (Rudder Angle). The heading shows up fine both as a line in front of the boat and on the Dashboard.

But the Rudder angle does not, the sentence APRSA shows fine in the nmea debug windows but the dashboard rudder angle only shows a steady zero.

Re: RSA Sentence. Rudder angle not shown

I have a S3G AP and I get the same symptom when I enable the dashboard with the rudder angle display. I've attached a screen capture of the NMEA window and the dashboard display.
The NMEA window shows the RSA sentence with a rudder angle of 0.7 starboard. The status shows OK ("A"). The dashboard shows no data ("....") for the rudder angle. The rudder angle is nearly zero, but I think it should display some value, even if zero. It's cold and raining this morning and I'm too lazy to go into the cockpit to change the rudder angle.
Has anyone been able to display the rudder angle in the dashboard?

John
