Re: RTZassist - OpenCPN is not an ECDIS

Mike..
OK, thanks.
But looking into my example file, source SE-SMA (attached - skip .pdf), there are not more info than covered by our gpx. So I do think your function is excellent. Would be considered to implement in O code base.
If there's an international route standard like this coming up we may apply? Not less to answer the question: "Can I export a route to Transas". -Yes if you program can handle the international (ECDIS) rtz standard! (Like O )

Re: RTZassist - OpenCPN is not an ECDIS

What would be interesting is to see some routes exported from ECDIS systems.
Does anybody have access and can provide a RTZ exported route?

Up-to-date ECDIS shall have the RTZ export option (import as well of course).

Re: RTZassist - OpenCPN is not an ECDIS

Seems like the rtz format was accepted as an international standard 2015, and now 2020 we can see it translated into action, at least, in Norway and Sweden.
Probably a range of other countries as well.
The advantages are to big to ignore. On big ships, just as an example, the piloting route will already be preloaded on the ships ECDIS, when the pilot comes aboard.

*I can see rtz as a route format, parallel to gpx on OpenCPN.
*The handling should be a part of the route manager.
*Direct reading/writing of rtz files.
*Conversion between rtz and gpx, both ways.
*A route downloading handler, similar to the current Chart Downloader.

It's to late for O 5.2. Once that release is out of the way it's time for some input from Dave.

Meanwhile.... RTZassist is excellent to test the concept.

The route that you have is probably not following the recommanded track. These do follow more the track on charts.

Things do not stand still. S-421 could take the place of RTZ in the future!

"Taking place", we shall see:
-------------------------------------------
From: 3rd ENCWG Meeting Wollongong, Australia (16 - 18 April 2018) Minutes

7.2 Information about S-421 Route Plan exchange

HP reported on the IEC work to develop a format for Route Exchange which is expected to be available in 2021. He noted that the specification will use the “RTZ” file format.

The S-421 number has been assigned to the Product Specification. It is anticipated that there will also be an extension to cover all requirements of IMO voyage plan.
------------------------------------------------------------------

From this side RTZ does not look bad as a standard interchange format with future

Re: RTZassist - OpenCPN is not an ECDIS

Updated RTZassist to allow for Transas(Wartsila) extensions. File names start '001'. Thanks for the samples Leonid.

These Transas sample files are included in the installer (Windows) and the zip file on GitHub.

(Updated the tag and all associated files)

Re: RTZassist - OpenCPN is not an ECDIS

A MacOSX installer package has now been added to release v0.2.

https://github.com/Rasbats/opencpn.r...eases/tag/v0.2

Need to have 'xerces-c' installed before the app will run. Instructions in the 'ReadMe' here:

https://github.com/Rasbats/opencpn.rtz.assist

The 'Transas' sample files are included.

Re: RTZassist - OpenCPN is not an ECDIS

On the TODO list is an article for 'Seaways', the Nautical Institute magazine.

I find the lack of information about using RTZ on ECDIS surprising. It can open up a load of possibilities for things like Master/Pilot information exchange. The 'harbour' route to be used by the pilot could be sent to the vessel in advance. No hurried Master/Pilot information exchange with a quick glance at the chart. It will have already been loaded into the Ship's ECDIS.

Re: RTZassist - OpenCPN is not an ECDIS

Mike, all I do know is that it does not work for doing rounding. Large vessels would certainly appreciate such a features. Pilots have learn a way to do without it. Great Lakes men have tried different way and it all come back to local way of doing. Appreciate the effort.
