Re: S63 PlugIn Version 1.0 Released

OK,

For other users that are not aware of the tricks and turns in this process -

I was looking for the InstallPermit within My Account window on o-charts.org site. Not there.

Go to the home page.

Look at the tiny text on the home page on the left lower corner. Click the InstallPermit hyperlink then upload the .fpr file and then the InstallPermit is displayed.

Re: S63 PlugIn Version 1.0 Released

I'm setting up my new laptop - 64 bit Intel with Kubuntu (and dual boot).
I found out that it' possible to install the 32 bit plugin version on my 64 bit. It seemingly worked ... but a lot of libraries were swapped for the 32 bit versions. The end result was a mess, with no graphical boot possible next time I tried to start the laptop, and a bit of repair-work necessary to sort things out.
It should not be possible to even try a stupid thing like this and imagine trying to troubleshoot a failed installation, in this forum, with a Linux beginner when she can't even boot (the normal way).
I think that a line like:
Quote:
Multi-Arch: no
in the packages control files would take care of the problem, but I have not tested this.

Re: S63 PlugIn Version 1.0 Released

Thomas,

can you lodge an entry into Flyspray?
A 1.x version of the PI is in the pipeline so this issue should make it into it.

Re: S63 PlugIn Version 1.0 Released

Thomas...
The multi-arch is intentional, we are trying to avoid having more binaries packaged inside the DEB.
You say that upon installation it removed the amd64 versions of the libraries frrm your system completely?

Re: S63 PlugIn Version 1.0 Released

Excerpt from a recent email from Chartworld:
Quote:
HOW CONFIDENT ARE YOU?

CATZOC is a real challenge for Mariners using ECDIS and it´s a complete new way of quality and risk assessment.
Have you defined in your SMS how CATZOC information should be used for UKC calculation and route planning?

Do you know that CATZOC is not only effecting the vertical values of depth soundings?

Did you instruct your crew to adjust safety contour values based on CATZOC?
ChartWorld eGlobe G2 ECDIS now has the feature to factor in CATZOC values in the route check automatically, and is the ONLY ECDIS capable of this functionality.
This allows the Mariner to adjust route plans where CATZOC may affect safety

The function can be activated or deactivated, and the ships own CATZOC values can be uploaded (Intertanko table of values by default)
The eGlobe G2 ECDIS CATZOC function is the only risk control measure in the market that minimizes the factor of human error in CATZOC integration.

Re: S63 PlugIn Version 1.0 Released

Hello!

I have trouble figuring out if the S-63 plugin can handle these charts.

http://www.chartworld.com/shop/cw_enc

These are said to be directENC S-63.
I am a bit reluctant to buy these and then find out they are not supported by the plugin.

Re: S63 PlugIn Version 1.0 Released

Hans,

yes, the plug-in handles these charts.

There are problems with the Navionics charts by Chartworld in S-63 format as the sets are composed by several thousands of small cells. We have seen one with 12.500 chartlets or cells.
This brings OpenCPN on the knees. Issue is the internal chart data base of OpenCPN.
For which region you are looking?

Re: S63 PlugIn Version 1.0 Released

As far as I know OpenCPN does not handle Chartworlds "Direct ENCs" which is an encrypted SENC format by "SevenCs".

The same charts should also be available from Chartworld in plain S63 format, that O handles without problems.

Talking about Cuba...... NV charts seems very popular with cruisers heading that way. Read about the Fugawi plugin.

Re: S63 PlugIn Version 1.0 Released

Alternatives:

Next week an oeSENC set Caribbean will be published.

For Cuba you might consider the NV raster charts available via Fugawi as well.

Re: S63 PlugIn Version 1.0 Released

Hi
I have been unable to get the S-63 charts to display the same level of detail as other vector charts (e.g. iSailor, Navionics) or raster charts. In particular, important navigation features are marked but unlabelled, even with Display Category ‘All’, and ‘Show text’ ticked. E.g.:
a) a tower on a rock can be queried to show that it is a land area object (LNDARE) but the OBJNAM is not displayed, whereas it should be under S-52.
b) I’d also expect to be able to display the names of named underwater rock features (UWTROC) with Display Category ‘All’; these names are displayed on other vector charts.
c) None of the V-AIS are displayed (NEWOBJ, CLSNAM = ‘Virtual AtoN, Isolated Danger’, CLSDEF='A Virtual object marking an isolated danger').
The features have been discovered according to the Vector Chart Display list. Is there a switch to allow the names of these features to be displayed?

(I’m using OCPN v5.0.0, S63 v1.12 under win8.1, with the soon-to-be-released official New Zealand ENC charts.)

Re: S63 PlugIn Version 1.0 Released

Murray...

Some comparative screen shots would be useful.

Thanks

Re: S63 PlugIn Version 1.0 Released

Dave
Here are some example screen shots to compare S63 (left) and Raster (right):
1) Horn Rock (near Auckland): S63 doesn’t show the name of the UWTROC, and no sign of the V-AIS. However by clicking where the V-AIS <should> be, the Object information comes up, as shown in 2nd image. ie it is embedded in the S63 files.
2) Karori Rock: S63 doesn’t show the name of the seaward tower (LNDARE) which is a well-known landmark, nor the UWTROC features: Luna Rock, Thoms Rock.
3) iSailor image of the same area.
