Sail Trim Plugin

since customs decided to take away my boat and put it on the hard indefinitely instead of clearing me out to leave the country, I am still here and have internet and can work on plugins! I overstayed my visa which is why they can do absolutely anything they want, I'm lucky not to be deported (yet)

very basic plugin, but the idea is you can pull the mainsheet in or adjust anything
and quickly visualize speed changes. Also for very light air, it does a much better predictor lowpass to make it easier to adjust things on self steering when drifting.. Any ideas for enhancements?

Re: sail trim plugin

Sean, I've been "Gone Sailing"

Glad you've gotten your boat back and the authorities have let you go to leave NZ. What a relief! Will be sad not to have my programming buddy around for a long while, but hope you have a safe sail.

I've been sailing with several friends to Maine.

Attached is the compiled Sail Trim plugin which appears to show a historic chart of Speed, Course and Course Prediction. I have run it with VDR and several files in the Nmea directory on Opencpn Beta File Thingie, and it seems to record fine. I have not tried the Course Prediciton yet.

Windows Users: Take the doc off the attached file and put it in your plugins directory.

Re: sail trim plugin

The plugin doesn't show up after pressing the plugins icon in Options, not even after putting a dot between pi and dll.
OpenCPN 3.3.604.

Re: sail trim plugin

Humm, I believe I compiled it using 3.3.604. What do you have?
Maybe I should see if it compiles for 3.2.0?
Nope, it will not compile in 3.2.0 because it uses PositionBearingDistance identifier which requires 3.3.604 or later I believe.

Therefore you should be using 3.3.604 Opencpn for this plugin.

Re: sail trim plugin

Ok using, Opencpn v3.3.604 or later, try this. Remove the doc. Make sure there are NO Spaces in the file name. It works for me using 3.3.604

Copied the plugin, made sure no spaces etc. It didn't show up in the Options.
Uninstalled OpenCPN completely, followed by fresh install. Copied the sail trim plugin and started OpenCPN. The dashboard and grip plugins showed up, not the sail trim plugin.
Suggest you test the plugin on a fresh 3.3.604 install.

Re: sail trim plugin

Sorry, that is a pain. Are you using the Opencpn .3.604.exe dated 7/2/2013on Opencpn Beta File Thingie ? File Thingie 2.5.7 use: rguser, rgpass

File Thingie 2.5.7 This directory

It should show up in settings > plugins as TrimPlot

Re: sail trim plugin

After re-installing I was using of course using the default exe, opencpn.exe which, according to the properties, has file version 3.3.604.0.
I replaced it by opencpn3.3.604.exe from File Thingie. This exe is slightly bigger than the original exe.
Now, when pressing the plugin icon in Options, nothing at all shows, not even the default plugins.
My OS is win7 x64.

Re: sail trim plugin

Zoef, sorry it is not working for you. I've uploaded another version of 3.3.604 and a more recent opencpn3.3.711.exe version both of which run Trimplot in my setup. You could try those exe also making sure you have a full setup with all the appropriate directories.

Re: sail trim plugin

Thank you for the support but it is, unfortunately, all in vain. For now I give up. Maybe things work better for me in the next version of OpenCPN.

Re: sail trim plugin

Zoef, sorry I compiled it and it caused so much trouble. It does work for me, and if I happen to figure out why it is not for you, I'll post. It is an interesting start for a plugin, but not nearly as significant yet as Climatology, Weather_Routing and Weatherfax.

Re: sail trim plugin

If you are using Win 7 then the reason you can not see the plugin is most likely because of Microsoft's aggressive anti malware built into the OS. See pic below. Even tho it gives me the option to unblock the ddls compiled by Rick, it doesnt actually unblock them. Related to the unsign drivers PITA they introduced with Win 7.
