Sailtimer communicates via bluetooth and supposedly works with Android.
Do you have it working on your android yet?

OpenCPN does not support or have drivers for bluetooth, so you will need to find a way to convert the bluetooth nmea stream into something opencpn can understand.

Or find a bluetooth to wifi interface (Opencpn is able to connect to a wifi interface).
Please look further down the page above for one solution.

OpenCPN does not need to support Bluetooth. It supports however virtual Serial. Any Bluetooth device sending NMEA0183 data does it using the SPP (Serial Port Protocol) of Bluetooth. The receiving computer then has a so called Bluetooth stack to understand all the different Bluetooth protocols. In case of SPP the computer has a virtual serial port then. Please don't confuse people with wrong statements. This helps nobody.

Re: SailTimer

No still don’t have SailTimer working. I am told it works on older versions of open cpn but it does not work on this android version. SailTimer has the blue tooth going to their program to decode and is then picked up be opncpn. It does not make it to cpn.

Re: SailTimer

You give no information regarding what you have done to make the connection. I suggest you read the Sailtimer instructions, since you had it working before and suggest you read about connecting bluetooth to a virtual serial port and then make a new connection in Opencpn.

Astrid.sails...

Sailtimer bluetooth interface is known to be faulty in the current OpenCPN for Android Release. This is on the list for correction in the next release, due in a few weeks.

TIA for your patience.

Re: SailTimer

Can someone confirm that this is still an issue with the OpenCPN for Android version on the play store as of 3 May 2023? In other words, I just bought and downloaded OpenCPN for Android and it doesn't appear to get the data from the Sailtimer Wind device. Yes, I read the instructions. I can start the Sailtimer API app and their Wind Gauge app shows correct it is functioning.
