Re: SAR Plugin

If you are using OpenCPN 5.1.612 the search speed in the GPX now comes through correctly in the route properties. Thanks Dave. First test shows a good match between route manager and SAR_pi calculations.

Re: SAR Plugin

With capture ship and cursor position checked. I thought there were buttons for this, how do you do it?

Is there any possibility that we could have a Preferences Tab?
Then put waypoints in it?

At some point this plugin will need to start using the new access to static data directory and plugin destinations.
and new variables for paths which isn't too difficult, Dave did it for weather_routing, you might ask him.
But you might be able to do it following this https://github.com/rgleason/weather_...ff1fcf2fbebfb9

Re: SAR Plugin

Hello Mike,

Several remarks after some testing :

- no message when you miss to enter mandatory information
- the search pattern was running well over the ground with no message
- you cannot choose where the GPX track file will be stored

This is the default that was in the original SaltyPaws plugin. He decided to give values to each of the input boxes if they had been left empty. Should we ditch that and test for an empty box? Is the coding effort worth it?

I have already added a stop message when the user has not entered a Datum/CSP.

This is strange. OS? Calculate only gives you the search distance/time. 'Generate GPX' should give you the option to save the GPX. Perhaps 'Calculate Only' should be on the button?

What is the purpose of this? We have lost a crew member overboard at night in bad weather. An emergency situation where everything needs to be as simple as possible. What is the position of the waypoints?

Only just looked at this. The preferences do not seem to affect anything. Should we just remove preferences altogether? Simple.

Re: SAR Plugin

Mike, you did not answer my question about ship and cursor postion, which you have removed. Now you are proposing removal of Preferences. IMHO this plugin is preceding backwards at a rapid rate.

Re: SAR Plugin

Rick... Are you sure you are looking in the right folder for the GPX? I have done this a couple of times only to find the GPX in another folder. The code does not use the information requested in Preferences.

Crowdin has been updated for this plugin.

Please help with translations if you can.

Many thanks.

Re: SAR Plugin

Rick prompted me to learn more about the new plugin packaging system. Using Jon Gough's 'testplugin_pi' as a template the plugin can be installed in the latest OpenCPN beta by importing the tarball from:

https://cloudsmith.io/~mike-rossiter...beta/packages/

The traditional installers '.exe', '.deb' etc are available here as well.

There is a problem with the tarball installer for the plugin. No icon for the plugin appears against the plugin dialog entry 'sar' and an additional entry appears, 'SAR'.

Enabling 'sar' does not work. The 'SAR' enable does.

'uninstall' appears for 'sar' but not for 'SAR'. Using the 'sar' uninstaller removes 'sar' but still leaves 'SAR'. There is no uninstaller for 'SAR'. On Windows you need to delete 'SAR_pi.dll' from 'AppData/Local/opencpn/plugins/'. This may be a peculiarity of my setup or a bug in some of my code.

The SAR icon has reverted to the original bitmap version while I look at the best way of working with SVG icons. Again Jon Gough has a template in 'testplugin_pi' that I can refer to.

Re: SAR Plugin

Ok... the fix was simple. Uppercase, lowercase. Needed to make a new Cloudsmith repository 'SAR-beta'. Now available here:

https://cloudsmith.io/~mike-rossiter...beta/packages/

The tarball now works correctly. Thanks Jon.

Re: SAR Plugin

Great job Mike. You're the first one to convert to Frontend2, really with the exception of Squiddio. The next thing to do is to get it into the Master catalog.

Jon is making changes to the process which is going to make it much easier to do this, but I haven't got to process down yet, so I can't help you with it. Essentially we need to pull the metadata files into your fork of opencpn/plugins, but it's not quite clear yet how to use Jon's new clever setup. I was working manually before, but that was going to get very tedious.

Re: SAR Plugin

Mike, this is a "Common Name problem" The name you have given the plugin does not match the "commonname". Do a search on sar_pi.cpp for commonname.

Mike I did download the tarball and "installed plugin tarball for v2.6"

Despite my previous comment, I think you have improved the SAR plugin considerably, and I even found the Ship and Cursor buttons again (and they work!)

I think this needs to be used and tested to see what issues there really are. Thank you for taking the time to bring it back to life.
