Screen corner coordinates

Hi all,

I'm trying to find a way to get the lat/lon co-ordinates of the view corners for the current view in OpenCPN. Running the mouse along the screen edge never seems to give me the same lat/lon values twice!

Ideally it would be good to have these as status bar items or a custom pop-up window. Is this something that could be developed as a plugin?

I'm willing to have a go, though my C++ skills are as sharp as a bar of soap...

You don't say anything about why you need the corner coordinates.
One reason could be to make kap files from screen dumps of cm93,oeSENC or S63 charts.....?
Well, you don't strictly need the corner coordinates for that.
*Drop a mark near each corner, and use the coordinates of these marks to make the REF points.
* Initially use the same coordinates for the PLY points.
*Display the produced chart in single mode and get the true corner coordinates.
*Adjust the PLY points, by using these new coordinates, and produce the final chart.

Thomas, wouldn't his plugin idea would make it easier?

GE2KAP is about the easiest way to make a KAP from the chart image that is displayed by OpenCPN. It can be done without using Google Earth. However, it would be really tedious to use it to copy a portfolio of charts.

GE2KAP gets the OpenCPN display coordinates from its OpenCPN plugin. The interface already exists.
