Navigational charts for Android

Hey y'all,

Gertraude is having trouble finding charts to use offline in OpenCPN for Baltic Sea and Norway that are free or paid versions that work with OpenCPN. The chart downloader within OpenCPN returns no results.

Does anyone know of a source of OpenCPN-compatible charts for that area?

Thanks

Re: Seekarten für Android

The first chart source that comes to mind is https://o-charts.org/, and I suggest reviewing the documentation carefully before getting started. Also, be aware there is no dongle option for Android, but this should not be a problem in most cases.

Side note: In the OpenCPN wiki at https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do..._vector_charts there is a broken link in the sentence beginning "Also download and read the informative Documentation from..."

The keyword the OP is using is freie seekarten: OP is looking for FREE charts.

CM93, of course, comes to mind. Of course, they are out-of-date.

Open-charts (o-charts) has reasonably priced up-to-date vector charts for the areas the OP wants (e.g., Norway is €21).

The most recent cm-93 charts we have are 2012. Possibly out of date but mostly very good for places where ships or a lot of marine traffic goes. I'd say that they would be very good for Baltic Sea and Norway.

We use CM93 as our base charts in OpenCPN but always scrounge around for better charts where CM93 does not have good coverage.

Here is a section of a CM93 chart of Norway showing the island of Rossvelloeya near Smoela where my family got its name.

I could navigate with this chart.

The question is, where would the OP get CM93 charts?

Re: Seekarten für Android

They could also use SASplanet and extract a set of the latest 2022 (!!) Navionics charts and save them as MBtiles.

Neat thing, they can save the same areas as SAT images as well and save them as MBtiles too.
One chart group with Navionics and one with the corresponding Sat images.

SASplanet makes it easy to save a range of resolutions which can be zoomed seamless in OpenCPN.
Works flawless in OpenCPN.

Send you a PM in German explaining one way to get it done.

Re: Seekarten für Android

Can somebody post the translation of the title?

If there’s any more non-English posting in this thread I will delete the whole thread. It’s hard enough catching folks insulting each other in the various local English slangs from around the world, we are not interested in doing it thru some translation service.

Btw. The MBtile method with SASplanet I mentioned above works for Android and Desktop.

It's just a benign question about charts for the Android version of OpenCPN. Probably already answered.
No insults in sight.

I knew that there wasn’t a problem here, currently, it’s the precedent of letting any non-English threads continue that creates a problem for us in the long term. We get enough flame wars that drive members away, having them go on for an extended period in whatever language before being caught drives even more members away.

If this wasn’t a very useful topic with a lot of good answers already I would have deleted and told the OP to restart the thread in English.
