Ships icon issues

We are running opencpn 5.8.4 and are having problems with the ships icon tracking sideways on the screen and the extended course line is missing, also unable to change the screen from North up, course up or heading, never had this problem with the previous version. I would like to know where I can download the previous version of opencpn which from memory was 5.8.2, if someone could advise as to where I can download the previous version please or advise as to what have gone haywire.

Re: Ships icon issues

I'd have suspected some in-data failures but if you want to try another version to compare:

There's a archive in the bottom of the OCPN download page.

Re: Ships icon issues

Follow the link. Scroll down to 5.8.2. Click: Assets and you'll find them.
If you're on Win a direct link here

Re: Ships icon issues

Well I've rolled back to 5.8.2 and the ships icon issues are still present, I have no Heading prediction length, course preditor length and the ships icon seems to be just dead in the water, can anyone enlighten me on the issue, it was all fine a couple of weeks ago but it has just started to happen.

Cheers Rod.

Rod.
What do you get on your data connections?
Unless connected to Signal K you can see what you receive, if anything, by enabling: Options=>Connect: [ ] Show NMEA Debug Window

Hi Hakan, here is a screen shot of the connections debug window which means nothing to me, hopefully you may see something amiss.

Cheers Rod.

Re: Ships icon issues

Rod..
You have two connections, COM3 and COM4. What's connected to them respectively? All COM4, including GPRMC = position, speed, course, are filtered out. See the color legend. Do you have set a "Input filtering" to that connection? If so try to run without any filter.

Re: Ships icon issues

Hi Hakan, COM3 is the Vesper AIS, COM4 is the Furuno GP33 GPS, I've never in the years running opencpn have I touched any filters as thats above my pay grade, opencpn has always worked for me until now, here is a pic of what it looks like. The screenshot is of com4.

Re: Ships icon issues

See the "Input filtering field" That one would be empty in your case.
Try to:
Click the three dots menu right of the filter row.
Click "Clear all" and "OK".
Now the filter should be empty. Click "Apply" / "OK" and check for a change.

Re: Ships icon issues

Hakan, yes I've tried that with no change, it's quite baffling as to why this has happened, last we used opencpn we had no problems fired it up 2 days ago and this cropped up.

Re: Ships icon issues

So, you say with an empty filter field, like my shot, you still get filtered (magenta) messages from COM4 looking at NMEA Debug window?

Re: Ships icon issues

This is the debug window with no filters as per your pic Hakan, on a side note I don't get any information in the dashboard plugin either.

Re: Ships icon issues

This is strange. I rewrote a GPRMC sentence from your picture. Nothing wrong and it works fine here playing it in plugin VDR.
As a shot in the dark, try:

In "Connect" select the connection for COM3 and remember the baud rate. Click "Remove connection".
Click "Add connection". Use "Serial", Dataport: COM3 and the same baud rate as before.

Click "Apply" and be sure it's Enabled.
See NMEA Debug window for any change.
