Signalk login help

ok I have spent a week searching the web and trying to find the procedure to login to signalk. I am using the deb distro with opencpn already installed, not noobs. When signalk is installed I can press the signalk button at the top of the screen and have data. Also the data is coming in when I click on I2c in menu, but, when clicking on the edit button in 2nd step and signalk comes up in chrome its asking for admin login, and then user, I cant get past this stage. Help would be appreciated
thanks in advance

Re: Signalk login help

It depends on which version of the SignalK server you are using.

Try http://server-ip-address:3000 and log in with the default user and password.

The default user and password can vary by install package. The port can also vary (the 3000 used above).

Which SignalK server did you install?

Re: Signalk login help

I tried the http://server-ip-address:3000 and it just says cant reach destination

my login page is at http://localhost:3000/admin/#/dashboard
I have tried most everything to log in
OS username and password
openplotter twice as mentioned in another post
cant get in
have reinstalled and also tried updating method
didnt work
I dont think the security is working, admin username and password is stored in security file in two places, but it will not write a user from the dashboard, yes I tried writing a user into the files with password unencypted but it didnt work, probably has to unhash

Re: Signalk login help

Solved
Thanks Be Free
I was trying to create a user ... wrong
I noticed admin in header and logged in using admin name and password the first time signalk
asked it to be created: it said create admin username and password

It worked
Under admin there is a place to create users
The admin username and password is anything you make up, write it down
It was confusing to me
it asked for admin to be created and sent you to another login page asking for usernameassword and I thought it was for user creation
The admin login creation should have passed us through like everything else does

learning, thanks

Re: Signalk login help

Hi Toerail,
I know it is a few years since you posted the below, but I've just installed a signalK instance on a Raspberry Pi as part of the "Bareboat Necessitates OS" (BBN) and I'm struggling with the same problem. When I open up the "Signal K Marine Data Server" web interface, and try to edit the data connections on the dashboard, I'm presented with a log-in screen asking for a user name (email address) and password I don't have. There is a button to click that says "sign up", when I click that and enter a new user name and password twice, and click the "register" button on that screen, nothing happens. The BBN OS documentation just says see the Signal K Server documentation, and that talks about going to a "security" menu, that isn't there in my BBN version. Appreciate any help you or anyone can please provide!
Brendan s/y Nakee (currently on passage from Cabo Verde to Barbados).

"Default passwords are set to 'changeme', which you are supposed to change. Default user name in login screens is 'user'."

Try those?

Re: Signalk login help

There is no password or admin user created after initial SignalK installation. If you read prompts properly you notice that first time you login you actually are creating admin user with the password you entered.
It’s done somewhat confusing in SignalK because for setting password it doesn’t ask you to repeat it to make sure you didn’t mistype it.

Re: Signalk login help

And ‘sign up’ button has nothing to do with your SignalK installation. It’s for signing up to SignalK cloud or web site on internet

Except, in this case the SignalK server was installed as part of a third party packager, BBN OS. So the packager may have already set up a default admin account.

I’m the packager and I know that there is no default SignalK user or password set.

Re: Signalk login help

I can't fathom why anyone would ask a question about SignalK Server or BBN OS on the OpenCPN forum!

Edit ~/.signalK/security.json and change
Code:
"password": "gobbledygook"
to
Code:
"password": ""
Restart the SignalK Server and when logging in to the SignalK Server web page it will ask you to Enable Security.

This time try to remember your username & password!
