Simrad Halo 20 ethernet to USB?

Hi,

Expecting to purchase a Simrad Halo 20 radar, which comes with a cable that appears to have an ethernet connection made to connect to a Simrad MFD. I want to go to my new HP Spectre 360, which does not have an ethernet connection.

I've already connected my GPS and AIS signals via USB A into a hub, then an adapter to get from USB to micro C for the laptop.

How do I get from the radar's ethernet RJ45 to USB?

Can I use something from Plugable, USB2-E100?

https://plugable.com/2015/04/21/sele...r-and-network/

I've searched the threads but haven't found the answer.

Thanks for guidance.

Armand

Armand..
See my comments in your text below.
For a secure navigation on board I'd use a PC with a Ethernet port. Neither OpenCPN nor radar_pi need any powerful machine. Buy a used one not suitable for gaming any more.
The other way around would be to test a good 5 GHz wifi router but that's not at all a known functional and secure set-up. See more here: https://github.com/opencpn-radar-pi/...n-%28Navico%29

Normaly you can't! The radar scanner communicates with a Ethernet protocol and not a serial.

Could be? What I know it's never tested if radar_pi will recognize the scanner with this gadget. But as long Windows reports it's a "normal" IP-network it would work.

On my first test of our SIMRAD dome we hooked it to a Dell XPS13 via a USB-Ethernet adapter. No issue.

Hakan,

Thanks for your thoughts. Understand I could use an older laptop with ethernet but hoping to go with new, and very light, HP Spectre.

PS. I'm of "pure" 50% Swedish heritage from my Mother (Haakman) and 50% French Canadian from my Father. I am very proud of my heritage, and am right now using one of several Swedish decorated coffee cups! We have been to Sweden and other Scandinavian countries.
