Re: Tactics Plugin

Nope, its for Beta Windows stuff, but it is current. You become beta tester, but much of it is very good.
Do a google search for Opencpn Beta File Thingie

Bernard,
it should understand the NMEA data exported from NKE, I use the same NMEA interface export box. ...
Try playing one of my sample files on Ricks beta file thingie (sample1.zip ... sample3.zip). They are original NKE NMEA data.
Otherwise run VDR, save the data to a file and upload some sample here.
Maybe you're missing some other stuff, like compass heading, log, etc.

Hello Thomas, thanks for your help.
I download O 4.4, and install on 4.0. Now, wind history and other indicators have TWS and TWD.
Polar and Tactics plugins are added :-)
I continue calibration, rudder angle are not cute with me i thinked (? think in past time ?) to have RSA nmea sentence to help me when i'm near rudder sensor, to display value.
I hope can sail before spring.

I don't remember that I had big problems with the rudder sensor installation, except the fact that I was creeping around in the bilge behind the safety hatch for a day or so with all the tools for glueing a support, measureing, drilling, cutting the rod etc which was not really fun ...
I fixed the tiller outside in the center position and then had someone outside sitting in front of the display telling me the center position of the sensor in the display while I tightened the bolts of the sensor housing...

That is my 2 problems :

- i'm alone for sailing AND for maintaining

Hm ...
if you have a long topline bus cable take the interface box and one of your gyrographic displays with you into the bilge ...

Thomas ...

Yes, you probably will have to climb into the back of your boat (into the bilge) to install the rudder sensor on your rudder/helm lever. If you take the display with you, you can do the calibration there alone ...

Re: Tactics Plugin

Hi,
I just updated the sources and documentation on github.
I did
  • a minor correction on the TrueWindDirection calculation
  • implemented a first shot of the optional export of the (NKE style) NMEA183 performance records (they all start with $PNKEP) . They can be selected one by one in the Preferences.

To send the records to your instruments, you need to define an outbound connection, e.g. like this :

The idea is, that tactics_pi calculates polar based performance data and send it to your instrument display.

For example it is possible to show the 'Polar Target Speed' on your instruments now.

Currently 2 of the records are still deactivated, but they will follow shortly.

The NMEA183 records are only created, if the necessary data is available in the plugin. In other words : you have to load a polar file, and you need True Wind, either calculated by the plugin or from your instrument data.

Please note :
OpenCPN's in-/output is based on NMEA183 data records. It cannot output NMEA2000 or Seatalk at the moment.

I have only infos for NKE instruments (which I'm using), so I started with this. I'm not sure right now, if other instruments are able to read NMEA183 performance records as well, but if so, I can enhance the plugin and include these too.

See the documentation for further details.

november, 14 are a good day. Wind are between 1 and 4 knts on Arzal (France, south Britanny)
Wind vane are now correct for AWA.
On the other hand, i made compass compensation by manual method, and i have "error bus"... :-( May be because i dont made automatic method first, or the compass does not allow it (too old)). I asked to NKE, response waiting.

Latest available firmware version for the fluxgate compass is 1.8
You can check your version in the Gyrographic display.
But I don't know the minimum version you need for manual compensation ...
