Re: Test Polauto by using OpenCpn w/o instruments

Thank you Patrick for the update. I have installed it and I think it could be a most useful program.

However ... i can not get it to read NMEA Data. I have used live data stream as well as recorded data - Polauto keeps ignoring them. All other programs - including OpenCPN, NavMonPC, QtVlm, Wxtoimg and Seaclear - do read the NMEA data.

Any Ideas?

Fritz

Re: Test Polauto by using OpenCpn w/o instruments

Patrick, I've tried to read Nmea data too and the Config seems to freeze such that I cannot close the Configuration Menu. Is there something I am doing wrong? Should we be setting the Com Port to anything?

Re: Test Polauto by using OpenCpn w/o instruments

Patrick has sent me a revised version which he will be posting on his website. Nmea read is now working much better without freezing the other windows. When Nmea read is active the com ports are not nor is Nmea write.

Some screen shots below.

Re: Test Polauto by using OpenCpn w/o instruments

The steps provided in post #16, are those steps still valid?

Re: Test Polauto by using OpenCpn w/o instruments

George,

Yes the steps in Post 16 will still work, and as an alternative, you can just use NavMonPc and one virtual port without having the benefit of seeing where the boat is on the Opencpn Chart.

I believe Patrick has updated (v5-2) the download so you can read Nmea directly now, if you get the most recent version. Polauto(v5-2)

Hi Rick,
I just downloaded the V5.2 and let it run for test with my nmea date recorded last year (you also use them).
Now i have found that in V5.2 the drawing of polar graphics goes wrong for the windspeed 26kts and up.
The graph of windspeed 14 is doubled to windspeed 26, 16 is doubled to 28 and so on. Any wind data above 26kts in spredsheet are not shown in the graphic, only the wrong dobled data from 14kts and up.
Do you stay in contact with tiersp and could you please inform him about this little bug

Re: Test Polauto by using OpenCpn w/o instruments

Hello,
The new version (5.1) is update on my website.
in the install, there is a notification in red ( but in french !)
If you have install a version before the version 5, you must do that :
-Save your polars
-uninstall the previous version
-Install the version 5
and then if you want you can IMPORT ( not copy ) the old polars and they will be transform automaticly in the new format.

Best Patrick

Re: Test Polauto by using OpenCpn w/o instruments

Thanks Patrick for updating your program.

Thanks Hartmut, I will email him, but he seems to be on this thread, above. It appears we can use this thread for further testing results, and I will advise Patrick.

Maybe others will be kind enough to try this program and report to this thread, so it is ready for the water! I am sure Patrick will appreciate that.

Best R

Hello Patrick
now tested 5.1 english version --> same bug
graphic did not show the right polarcurves of windspeed from 26kts to 36kts. The curves shown are the same as the curves of 14kts to 24kts.

Re: Test Polauto by using OpenCpn w/o instruments

Hi Patrick
to illustrate what i meen have a look at the screenshots with a synthetic polar

1st - all curves switched on ( there are no curves for wind above 24kts and the curves 14-24 shows the wrong colour)
2nd - all curves on without 26 and up (everything is ok)
3rd - only 26 and up on (the wrong curves are shown)
