Tide & Current popup boxes too small with 4K display on Win10

Ever since about version 4 (or Win 10) the popups which show current or tide data are so small that the buttons hide the date information so you can't tell which day you are looking at.
I'd love to know how to make them bigger, or the text and buttons smaller.

Screen resolution is 3840 x 2160. Seems not to matter what value I set Windows "display size of text, apps and other items". Mostly using the recommended 250% setting, but have tried from 100% to 300% with no effect. Also turning open GL on or off or any other setting I can find on user interface seem not to help.

Is there a setting in opencpn.ini I can try? Any value containing "size" seems not to help, though

Did you try Options/UserInterface/Enable Scaled Graphic Interface modifying the User Interface Scale Factor?

And please attach a screenshot for illustration if possible.

Tried every combination of scale factor I could imagine. Essentially that has no effect

Patience...

I am presently looking into high resolution display problems in another context.

Can you tell us if there are other UI scaling issues beyond the tide/current graphic popup? For instance, do the toolbar, chartbar, etc. all scale properly with the Options->UserInterface->UI Scale Factor slider bar? Right click menus all right? Any other UI elements causing unexpected size/behaviour problems?

And screenshots would be most helpful.

Thanks
Dave

Using raster charts which may make chart object from applying?
Screen shots of high res screen are too big for the uploaders 400Kb limits One I checked is 1004 KB.
So,
Menus seem unaffected by scale factors but aside from current and tide popups look reasonable and are resizeable in any case.

Icons appear to shrink and grow with the scale factor in a reasonable way.

Can't see any effect from changing chart object slider.

Re: Tide & Current popup boxes too small with 4K display on Win10

There are screen shot tools that allow to select the file type (png, jpeg...), select regions of the screen or sub windows, add drawings or blur information you want to hide.
"Greenshot" is good example.

The Windows Snipping Tool (In the search box type "Snipping tool") is a simple onboard program of this kind and saves in the .png format by default.
"New"|Select what you want to copy|Save as.. and upload to the forum.
You find the Snipping Tool under W10 Apps Windows accessories as well.

Re: Tide & Current popup boxes too small with 4K display on Win10

May be related: (Edit: but I just checked, my tide popup is ok???)
On a fresh install, but with old .opencpn dir, the Tools: Plugin window is too narrow to see the enable buttons. When I try to stretch/resize the window it snaps to 1 pixel wide. I have to kill opencpn at that point.
Ubuntu 15.04, opencpn 4.4.0 Acer i7 laptop 17" display resolution 1920x1080
error is: (opencpn:10597): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_set_size_request: assertion 'width >= -1' failed

If the mouse or me moves to make the window smaller this happens. If I move the mouse, on the right hand side of window to make larger, occasionally everything works as expected. It seemed to be dependent on the size of the main window, as I succeeded a number of tries with the main window approx 800 pixels wide, but also the tools window has the same reaction to resize.

Now that I think about it, my plug-ins window was too small too. Did not even try to resize it since it's a use once and forget about it feature.

Re: Tide & Current popup boxes too small with 4K display on Win10

Well, hopefully these two shots will give enough context, they just fit into 400 KB.
Note the size of the current arrow in the bottom right.
You can just see the bottoms of the row of icons which hopefully shows them respsonding to the slider.
There should be enough current window visible to see the probllem with it.
It doesn't change size or allow resizing. Didn't blow up though.

Patience...

Thanks for the pix. I get it.

For reference, and leaving aside the tide/current popup window, what do you find is a good value for the UI scale factor, considering the toolbar icons and the current arrows? Probably +5 is too much? What works best for your device?

Re: Tide & Current popup boxes too small with 4K display on Win10

There is enough screen real estate that too big is seldom a problem and it is rolled up with windows "magnification"... I've liked 200%. Windows recommends 250.

Without having given it much thought I'd been using a factor around 2.

At version 4.2 the AIS icons were too small to see without effort... Now that I have 4.4, I've moved off the boat and will need to make a visit this weekend to test that, so I may revise that factor. The current arrows on pre-high resolution screens were fine. At version 4.2 the were tiny with high res. Now they are bigger than necessary, but OK.

Re: Tide & Current popup boxes too small with 4K display on Win10

Now that I've looked at the AIS icons, they are far too small and not affected by the sliders. Once we have them responding to the sliders then picking a value for the slider makes sense
