Hi Pietje,

you will need a gateway, a box which translates between N2K and NMEA0183.

There are several choices, if you like to see something more integrated or just a hardware gateway to connect to the N2K/CAN bus to a (virtual) serial port.
Will depend on your skills and ideas. And the operating system you are using.

For an integrated solution the Actisense NGW-1 is perhaps the most frequently deployed device:
Actisense - Overview

Re: translater NMEA2000 to NMEA 0183

The NGT-1 just allows to listen to the N2K data "as is" and you need additional software to translate ithose nto NMEA0183 sentences.

As far as I know, there is no upgrade/update between the two devices, so you might will need the NGW-1.

Digital Yacht features their iKommunicate router, that does a lot more, but you will have to have a look which N2K sentences are already being translated.
Specification | iKommunicate

There are more solutions, but as in the case of iKommunicate the devices have a lot more options like multiplexing of WiFi.

If you want something out of the box for translating between the NMEA buses (and OCPN) the NGW is most probably the most simple and straightforward thing you can get.
The model in question will be the NGW-1-USB (if you don't have some spare real RS232 serial port on your PC).

Although i don't have experience with their products you could take a look at the products from ShipModul - The Netherlands, i understand that their Multiplexer - MiniPlex-3USB-N2K is able to do 2 way communication between NMEA0183 and N2K

I use the Actisense NGW and it works well. I use it bi-directional for autopilot out too.

Shipmodul products are excellent but I have not used their N2K products.

You could go the Openplotter RPi route but that adds an extra unit or two. Depends what you want to do. If like me you want to run other software on windows then I recommend one of the hardware converters that will work with anything, including a RPi if you want to go that way in the future.
