Ubuntu - install oeSENC plugin - Opencpn.org

On the web page https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/plugins/oesenc.html
there is link to windows and Mac OS X set-up packages.

Also, there is a reference to that for ubuntu/Debian and derivatives the plugin can be installed from PPA but the name of the plugin to be used for installation in not there so you will have to search or guess. I don't think I have access to edit the page, if so I would added a short instruction my self. I suggest to add on that page:
After the PPA is enabeld, you can install this plugin For Ubuntu Linux and it's derivatives (Linux Mint) and Debian Jessie based distributions from a terminal using
Code:
sudo apt-get install oesenc-pi

First you must add the PPA (Store) to your computer.

Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:opencpn/opencpn
sudo apt-get update
You can now install the plugin as explained above.

Code:
sudo apt install oesenc-pi

Had the ppa installed, just couldn't get the plugin. Have reverted back tot 16.04 and everything is fine now.

It is true that in some cases the use of PPA does not work properly. What version of Ubuntu were you trying to use?

I currently use the future 18.04, alias Bionic, and therefore the PPA provided gave error since there is no packet section in the PPA for bionic yet. But modifying /etc/apt/sources.lst and changing the PPA to xenial works well.

I would like much more than to use another system like AppImage that doesn't depend so much on the Gnu/Linux versions but for the moment this is what we have... or build from the sources.

Re: Ubuntu - install oeSENC plugin - Opencpn.org

FYI there is an error in the documentation in the page https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/plugins/oesenc.html

For Linux, the document says (as of today, at least) to install ofc-pi.

The correct package is oesenc-pi

i have reported the issue here: https://opencpn.org/flyspray/index.p...s&task_id=2449

Re: Ubuntu - install oeSENC plugin - Opencpn.org

This is the official Release PPA:

https://launchpad.net/~opencpn/+archive/ubuntu/opencpn

On that page, follow the instructions starting:
"Adding this PPA to your system"

You would do well to use a GUI based package management tool. Makes it much more clear what part of OCPN is going to be installed/upgraded, without having to upgrade anything else unless so desired. "Synaptic" is recommended. See the pix attached.

Re: Ubuntu - install oeSENC plugin - Opencpn.org

Thanks Dave. I have added the recommended PPA and I have also added the correct lines in my sources file... unfortunately the install package is still not located.
Do you have any further trouble shooting suggestions I could try?

I will look into Synaptic.
