UDP connection not working on OpenCPN

I have an AIS with WiFi operating mode set to Access Point mode (Server) with the settings below;

IP address: 192.168.1.4
Port: 5001
Protocol: UDP

I however can't connect with OpenCPN on two different laptops, both running on Windows 10.

After connecting to the SSID of the AIS on the laptop and entering the settings above in OpenCPN, I can't get any data output. However, I have no problem connecting using my android phone and OpenCPN app using either 192.168.1.4 or 0.0.0.0 ip address. It also works on other mobile apps like UDP/TCP utility on Ipad and UDP tester on android phone.

If the AIS protocol is set to TCP, I can connect fine with openCPN on the laptops with the above settings but set to TCP. It's just the UDP connection that isn't working.

Any ideas why the UDP connection isn't working?

Re: UDP connection not working on OpenCPN

Possibly something in the firewall on Windows. Try turning defender off, or if using 3rd party anti-malware try turning it off.

If that works, you will need to dig into the settings to allow connections on port 5001. Don't just leave your PC unprotected.

Or just use TCP. In this application there isn't a real advantage one way or another.

Thanks. I'll give this a try.
