Upload routes from OpenCPN to Garmin Chart Plotter

Hello,



Earlier I succeded to upload routes from OpenCPN to my old but very good working Garmin ChartPlotter C2010. This was a very attraktive feature since it is very conveniant to have /or create/ routes in OpenCPN for later practical use in the plotter with connected autopilot.


But presently I do not manage to get it working. It responds "route transfer failed, no GPS connected".


But the GPS is connected as before so I suspekt that it has something to do with the settings in the connections in OpeCPN.


Someone who has tried this and can give me some hints how to get it going?

Do you have a connection setup for this Chart plotter in Settings->Connections?

1. Windows or Mac or linux?
2. What version of OCPN?

3. What connections do you have setup in OCPN?
4. How is the Garmin plotter configured?

5. Any other observations?

From a quick perusal of the manual, it appears that the C2010 uses the Garmin protocol for importing/exporting waypoints, tracks and routes.

I am developing a JavaScript FollowOCPN, which will supercede sendActiveRoute.

It makes use of recent developments in the JavaScript plugin and is much simpler and easier to understand. I am using it this season.

It could be used to send almost anything over NMEA0123 to a plotter or other device. I will be publishing it when ashore in the autumn, but anyone interested can PM me for early access.

I guess Dave is too busy to follow my hint and reply.

It is a known bug in 5.8.x and is fixed in the next release.

Perhaps the OP can test a beta release and report if it is working as expected.

Unless the Javscript plugin is also capable of performing the Garmin protocol dance, it will not address this problem. Which reminds me of the old saying:“If the only tool you have is Javascript, you tend to see every problem as a Javascript solution.”

Here is what I have done. I export the Open CPN routes to my macbook desk top in GPX format. I then export those files to Active Captain to upload to my Garmin Chart plotter. Not as easy as pushing one button, but still pretty easy.
