Re: Volunteer Plugin Testers Needed!!

We need to have all plugins, and all OS, tested using OpenCPN 5.6.2 just as Mikhail Grushinskiy has recently completed for "rpi armhf ubuntu buster/10".

Report your findings appropriately in github issues or here please.

Re: Volunteer Plugin Testers Needed!!

Without Plugin Testers there will be no more TP Plugin Updates.
It is the responsibility of Users to test these plugins before they are released, so sign up!

I am about ready to drop this whole program and just build for myself.

Re: Volunteer Plugin Testers Needed!!

I am absolutely serious about this need, and if there are not enough users interested in testing the plugins for their particular OS, then there is no need to build the plugins for that OS.

At this point, the next plugin update cycle will have only 5 OS. To add other OS if someone volunteers to test, will require waiting another 3 months for the next cycle.

We are not going to release plugins that are not tested.

Mike that's good but this topic is about recruiting plugin testers. Do you have a second person using your system who can also test? We would like to have at least 2 for every OS?

Rick,

Besides my macs, I have a an extra RPi4 with an Openplotter installation that I can test on, if that helps. I believe it’s Debian Buster based.

I’ll try to find some time to boot it up and update it to O5.6.2 and add shipdriver, etc. so it’ll be ready to go if needed.

Rick, you already have 2 Win10 testers, but one of them is you, & I'm sure you're busy with other things. I can help with Win10 testing if you want me. I don't usually run many plugins, but I was actually a professional SW tester in a previous life.

Re: Volunteer Plugin Testers Needed!!

Jon that would be great! Thank you. Much appreciated.

Mike, do you have some users that you know who can test please?

Steve you are already doing MacOS and Android (if the plugin is built for that) + your plugins, but testing for the RPI4 would be wonderful, if we don't have at least two testers. Thank you!

Re: Volunteer Plugin Testers Needed!!

I am feeling more optimistic about the testing program because of the recent volunteers! Jon being an SW Tester in another life may have some good suggestions as to how to manage this and improve quality. What is the best and simplest way to notify everyone that a test is needed? What is the best and simplest way for tester's to notify pass/fail and details? Should we use github as a start, provided everyone can sign up for a free opensource account?

However we are sadly lacking in testers for rpi, flatpak, and ubuntu.

@SCarns I realize now that you were not doing android, what OS version do you use for your RPI4?

Hi Rick

I can test on flatpak 20.08 inside a linux x86-64 system
but not inside a x86 system

(my old x86 mini laptop can't afford flatpak x86 20.08 ... but OpenCPN 5.2.4 worked well on it when installed from packages built for the distribution I use)

My pseudo (filochard) is the same on the cruiser forum and on github

Unfortunately it seems that I won't be able to test anymore packages built from source and installed on a linux system without using flatpak, as I could before (I am the OpenCPN-packages maintainer for Mageia and built them for x86 and x86-64 armv7 and aarch64 ) ...
Packages can now only be built for debian or ubuntu

Re: Volunteer Plugin Testers Needed!!

I have also done a good bit of software testing. I would like to see a spreadsheet with all the plug-ins listed (since se don't acutally have proper software testing software). We could check off tests in some kind of matrix by plug-in / OS. We could store it in dropbox or something?

Also, are we ready to start? This is boat launching season and I've been busy but have some cycles now for testing.

I also have a RPi with open plotter and the latest OCPN. If needed I could ditch the Openplotter, load a version to Raspbian that needs a tester and test there.

Please let us know if everything is ready to begin testing.
