Re: Watchdog Plugin

The anchor alarm allows 6 decimal digits of degrees for latitude and longitude, but when I close OpenCPN it seems only 4 digits of latitude and 3 digits of longitude are saved. It's a bit annoying because I shut down my system to use the SSB radio because it makes too much noise, and when I restart the alarm may sound unless I reset the position.

While on the subject, it would be great if the lat/lon boxes respected the units preferences of OpenCPN, displaying and allowing entry of deg, deg & decimal minutes, or dms as set in the options. Even better, how about implementing copy lat/long & paste lat/long like the waypoint property boxes?

For a really cool UI improvement, maybe the graphic circle could have a little anchor at the center that a user could drag and drop into the desired position.

These are good ideas, please enter them into tracker under the pi_watchdog project as a feature request. Enter the 4 digit as a separate bug please. Thank you. Tracker keeps us on track do things don't get lost.

Re: Watchdog Plugin

I would like to see an alarm for depth included withing Watchdog.
Best would be if you could set an interval of min and max depth.

Re: Watchdog Plugin

Hans, That is a great idea, but Sean needs a transponder to make that useful to him. Several years ago I had a line on a full set of older B&G instruments that were being removed from a boat, which I was going to send, but the owner sadly, sold them to the installer of the new instruments.

We need some sailors in this forum to keep their eyes open for such opportunities, and then send the instruments to Sean.

Then Sean will be able to code the necessary alarms.

Rick!

Funny you mention B&G. I just love those instruments.

That is what I have and I have just designed an interface board that will
convert B&G network data to NMEA 0183.
I am returning to Europe but when I get back in October I should be able to record depth data to be used to test the Watchdog pi.

Re: Watchdog Plugin

Uwe, nice. The data would be great, but Sean has been offered that data, (he wants a depth instrument. etc) and I can't really fault him about that. Someone must be replacing their instruments!!!

Agreed about B&G... and I thought I had some nice instruments for Sean!
We need some help finding him some instruments.

Re: Watchdog Plugin

Watchdog Plugin API is
#define MY_API_VERSION_MAJOR 1
#define MY_API_VERSION_MINOR 13

found in src/watchdog_pi.h

From the Dev Manual Plugin API page
Quote:
pi113 (1.13) = OpenCPN 4.2 ←SVG Icons added (gtk,expat,vc,etc)
So this plugin if compiled with the corresponding versiion of opencpn.lib and wxWidgets 3.0.2 would work in Opencpn v4.2 through v4.8.8.

However since we are now using wxWidgets 3.1.2 for OpenCPN v5.0 you must now compile watchdog_pi with wxWidgets 3.1.2 and opencpn.lib (for Plugin API 1.16) now that plugin will be compatible with only OpenCPN v5.0 and all future OpenCPN versions going forward that use wxWidgets 3.1.2.

From the Dev Manual Plugin API page
Quote:
pi116 (1.16)= OpenCPN 4.99 (5.00 or ov50)
Note that by moving from wxWidgets 3.0.2 to 3.1.2 some wxWidget functions get deprecated or do not work on certain OS. This happens fairly regularly, sometimes an #if def is needed for that OS alone.

Ron, I hope this explains the system a little better, and perhaps gives you some underestanding why watchdog_pi is not working on MacOS yet.

Watchdog Plugin : new version available on Mac or Linux ?

Hi all,

I'm using the watchdog plugin on my mac and on my Raspberry (OpenPlotter 1.2 with OpenCPN 4.8.8).
On both OS, the latest version I found are 1.9042

I have been using Watchdog for an alarm anchor with great success.
I'm wondering how to setup a wind alert but I didn't find it in the interface.
I had a look to the github repo (I'm a developer, but not a C developer).
And I found a file named 'NewAlarmDialog.cpp' that already contains the list of alarm type, and I found a richer list with 10 types (instead of 7 in mine).

Is it possible to use those new types? And how ?
Is it available for other os than windows ?

Regards,
Philippe

Watchdog Plugin and Manover board alarm

Hi,

I'm looking for the best way to have a man over board alarm.
The idea is to use the bluetooth on the laptop running OpenCpn to detect bluetooth LE devices (simple devices less than 10$ pieces).
When a device is not detected any more (in the water or far from the boat), then throw an alarm and plot a MOB into CPN.

Very close to https://sea-tags.com/?lang=en but without depending on a proprietary solution and on a real computer instead on a smartphone.

I first want it on my raspberry (Open Plotter) that have the advantage of being switch on all the time with a very limited consumption.

I already have a python script that scan the devices, do filtering on MAC address and can throw a message when a device has not been seen for a long time.
The python use an OS specific implementation for Bluetooth.
At the beginning I was thinking to use node-red to run this script, but I think it's better to have a deeper integration with OpenCPN.

What do you think about a ManOverBoard alarm in the wathdog plugin ?

Is the script usefull ? (I know several languages, but in only practice C at university).

Thanks for the watchdog plugin !
Philippe
