Re: Watchdog Plugin

When I try to get AIS guard zone to work and create a GZ , copy the Guid ,setup the settings as needed Watchdog 2.4.21.0 show "guard zone not found" how do I get Watchdog to recognize the guardzones?

Re: Watchdog Plugin

I just tested it, it works.
Create the guard zone, copy the Guid in the properties menu. Open Watchdog, make a new Boundary alarm and put the Guid into the AIS Guard Zone and select that option.
The message says "No AIS Targets found in the guard zone"

You can use a Guard Zone GUID in a "Boundary Alarm" which is what you are thinking of! That works too.

Re: Watchdog Plugin

What does he need? NMEA 0183 depth only? or a triducer? I could probably find something.

Re: Watchdog Plugin

Thanks. He needs a transducer that will output nmea0183. That would be great.

Re: Watchdog Plugin

Hello Sean, hello RGleason, hello All,

For a few days now, I have been trying to improve the tutorial page in French opencp.fr, relating to securing moorings. Obviously, this page explained the "Anchor Whatch" tool, integrated into OpenCPN. I wanted to add, in the tutorial, explanations to do the same with Draw and WhatchDog.

The problem is, far from the sea and my boat, so without GPS, I cannot test my explanations.

So I wanted to try to play a file recorded with VDR, to obtain a virtual NMEA stream. I have placed the boat in a boundary whose center is the starting point for the "virtual" navigation produced by the VDR file. Then I start playing the VDR file. Alas, the alarm goes off immediately.

It shouldn't be.

After testing various settings, without solving the problem, I came to the idea that WD behaves as if there is no real NMEA stream.

I have bothered to read the WD related pages on opencpn.org. But, I did not find the answers to my questioning there.

Who can help me perform tests under my conditions? You can read, but it is in French the current state of my explanations:
S?curisation du mouillage

Thank by advance.

Re: Watchdog Plugin

Gille,
Why are you trying to use Watchdog and VDR to test the OpenCPN Anchor Watch?
You just need OpenCPN and VDR. That is all.

Watchdog will not assist you in this effort.

On the other hand, if you are trying to test a function of WatchDog using VDR to simulate the Nmea data flow for WatchDog to use, that should work, both Boundaries and the Anchor function.

Are you reporting that these do not work??

Regarding Anchor whatch, as it is built into OpenCPN, no problem. I have known this tool since the early versions of OpenCPN and it has always worked well. It has been explained in the opencpn.fr website for years.

So no problem with that.

And I know that the WatchDog plugin does not intervene in its operation.

Yes, it's the use of boundaries and whatchDog turns out not to do what I expect it to do.

I have tested playing VDR file by VDR to create NMEA stream. Traditionally, it works.

Mike reminds me of the existence of ShipDriver to create a NMEA flow. I tried this plugin last night.

Either way, the results I get with WatchDog are not what I guess I should expect. More precisely, we must have effects similar to those of AnchorWatch. It really is not.

So, I try to find the causes of these dysfunctions.

Could they come from the fact that the NMEA stream is virtual? Not being able to compare with a real NMEA stream, due to a GPS, currently, I ask the users to confirm to me that both with a virtual stream and with a real stream, there are no differences.
