What about saying "OpenCPN does not run with every macOS machine" ?
Is this true or false?

My dear friend...
It sure is true, there are very ancient macOS machines where current OpenCPN and it's dependencies can't be used at all.
But as you probably try to refer to Core2Duo machines as usually, it is false, users just can't use the official packages as released for 5.2.4 and have to either build themselves or use the much better OpenCPN that you so kindly make available to them. OpenCPN runs there.

Re: Watchdog Plugin

Ok, now I've found that Watchdog v2.4.31.0 is not working in ubuntu and possibly flatpak. See https://github.com/rgleason/watchdog_pi/issues.

I know that I saw v2.4.30.2 working in Ubuntu, and other more recent possibly.

Re: Watchdog Plugin

Please report which environments work or don't work here.
Ubuntu 20.1 -working
Ubuntu 18.04 -not working
Windows -working
Android - not working

It appears as a 'setpoint' undefined error.

  • Problems with flatpak should be resolved
  • Ubuntu should be working now.
  • Android should be available. (please advise)

That doesn't help when using a touchscreen. On my Raspberry Pi there is no way to do a right click and hence (e.g.) set or edit an anchor point except by plugging in a mouse. It would be nice if there was perhaps a menu button on the dialogue box

You have right click support via long touch or two finger tap (first touch is the point of right click) in BBN OS for Raspberry pi. Try it. It’s easy to install and all you need is extra SD card.

Interesting, thanks, I'll look into it. It will also require buying another copy of my o-charts, changing OS or media invalidates the licence, and I already used up the backup when I changed SD size.

Re: Watchdog Plugin

When experimenting with RasPis on OpenPlotter or other similar environments consider the USB key dongle to protect your o-charts sets.

Re: Watchdog Plugin

Unable to execute alarm via "command"

I am on OpenCPN version 5.6.1-1+818ee2e (flatpack flathub-beta)
and Watchdog 2.4.44
RPI4 with Linux 5.15.32-v8+ #1538 SMP PREEMPT Thu Mar 31 19:40:39 BST 2022 aarch64

I have tried to use the "command" alarm mode but I do not manage to get any reaction.

I would like to activate my "ships bell (alarm bell)" by setting a RPI GPIO high and have made a small python script to do that. The script works well when I test from the terminal shell but when I try to execute from within opencpn and watchdog I get no reaction. I have tried my script but also other commands lite the "aplay sound.wav" from the example (works from the terminal but not from opencpn.

Have I missed something in the command format?
I am running opencpn "as myself" and expect that opencpn has the same rights as I have...

Please adwise!

Thanks!

/Björn

Re: Watchdog Plugin

Sorry but I am familiar with Windows. It works in windows provided you point to a wav file. Some RPI user may be able to help.

Perhaps this will help. Spotted while updating the Manual

The watchdog executes a command when an alarm is triggered. It does not execute a command to test if an alarm should be triggered.

So I am not sure how it can use your script or how to make it do GPIO.

the aplay issue is likely a path problem to sound.wav Can you try the full absolute path?

As for rpi gpio alarm.. Can you do this some other way, using node red or just run your script periodically? Or just make your script play the sound?
