Difference between the two laptops is mainly that the navigation PC (which does not have crashes) has a GeForce MX250 GPU and the laptop where it crashes has an embedded Intel GPU.
I read somewhere that the Microsoft drivers for the internal Intel GPU can give problemens with openGL because Microsoft favours other solutions above openGL. Maybe it has something to do with this.

Thanks for the polar.
Bdbcat has programmed in Opencpn a kind of opengl checker which disables certain opengl features when a certain chipset is found (I believe this is how he does it) however there are many chipsets and opengl features. I believe the earlier Intel integrated graphics cards had some isssues I have an Intel HD Graphics 3000 card, in my laptop, but also have an Nvidia Geforce adapter. These are quite old now. The HD3000 had some issues, but turning off things like texture mapping, etc helped. I do use the Nvidia more for Opencpn.

There is an opengl program called GLviewer which checks your graphics card for features supported for windows.

Hi again,

I am looking for a bit of clarity about how this should work as the new plugin management feature matures. Should I be installing the weather routing plugin .deb file as cagney suggests? ...or should I be waiting for weather routing to show up when I refresh the plugin catalog? The second option seems to me to be more in line with the design goal but right now I will take anything.

Does anybody have any visibility of when we should expect to see weather routing become usable in this release of O?

Got my answer!

I have used the plugin catalog to download and install the latest version.
Install worked like a charm. Starting to try out Weather Routing today.
Thanks again for all your effort!

Re: Weather Routing

Good to hear that. It is still beta both the plugin and the Plugin Manager.
What OS are you using?

Re: Weather Routing

I am using Ubuntu 20.04.
FWIW it looks good so far but a little limited because we are still waiting for Climatology to be available via Plugin Manager? I am getting a few "No Data" failures and I expect that will be the reason...

That is next on the list, but we are still sorting out other stuff.

Re: Weather Routing

Understood. No problem, just grateful you guys do what you do!
In the meantime I won't route anywhere without a GRIB.

While I'm waiting on Climatology I do have one cosmetic issue to let you know about;
The text in the Positions and Configurations panes is very big. All the label and button text seems to be correct (at least it looks right to me) but the column headings and the information in the panes is in a font that is around twice the size.
I am running on Ubuntu 20.04.
Please let me know if you need any more information?

Re: Weather Routing

Hi!
I am running OpenCPN 5.0.5.18 on a windows 10 machine.
When opening weather route plugin and having it make a route it becomes very sluggish. Actually it freezes the whole OpenCPN. You can't step the grid reader time and you can't read the wind speed when moving the cursor.
The fan of the computer spins up.
Ending the weather route plugin brings back the normal speed accessibility to OpenCPN.
Weather route version = 1.13
Is this a known issue ?

Re: Weather Routing

It's not when the route calculation is being done. It's afterwards when it is finished and you want to browse around and find out what the
wind speed e.t.c. will be along the route that it gets sluggish/freezes.

Re: Weather Routing

Hans,

I have not noticed this happening. Can you try turning off all plugins other than weather_routing, grib_pi and vdr if you are using it?

Re: Weather Routing

Rick,

The only plugins I now have active are : WeartherRouting, Grib and Climatology.
After the route is complete it freezes and I can not pan the chart or zoom in or out.
If I grab the WeatherRouting window and move it the OpenCPN comes alive.
I have to do this maneuver for every zoom/pan.
I will do a recording of the screen later and upload it on my dropbox for you to study.
