Looks like the cpu load goes to idle as expected.
Only thing is: nothing is displayed .
Route report seems to report valid data but there is no route displayed.

As I am helping a number of boats across the Atlantic West to East i need to revert back to the older version of WeatherRouting_pi.

Do you have opengl on?

Re: Weather Routing

Hans,

I installed the same Opencpn msvc file in the old way.

I found Opengl is unnecessary, and doesn't really change appearance. I believe it is in the settings. How thick is your route? maybe it is set on 0?
also look at the settings in the examples below.

I have just run some tests and for some reason the CPU usage has gone down both with and without Climatology. With climatology it is slightly higher. When the plugin is actually doing a routing the CPU is up to 20 percent, but after completion it goes down to 1 to 2 percent now.

Note the settings I used, also set Advanced Tab to "default"
It should work on your machine it is the settings I believe.

We are missing the informative yellow rollover tags and need to get them back!

Rick,

Yesterday, I had WeatherRouting run the CPU up to 100 percent at the ends of two Atlantic routings from Port Everglades, Florida to Gran Canaria. Here is a screen shot of one of these.

Yesterday, I also made more than 20 routings between the same start and end points without any 100 percent CPU use. Normal CPU use for WeatherRouting is just over 50 percent. It is a dual core CPU.

Code:
OpenCPN 5.1.621+0285fb5
WeatherRouting 1.13.9.0
Climatology 1.4.2-ov50-win32.exe (reports as 1.4 in Options/Plugins)

Thank you .Paul. I think there are some improvements that can be made, perhaps I will write didg directly.

Re: Weather Routing

Rick,

I have made another recording to show the behavior.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/bumn8ja379ups7i/WR_2.mp4?dl=0

OpenCPN : 5.1.621+2290.ffa997b
WeatherRouting : 1.13.1

The behavior is unpredictable.
The cpu can go up to 25% just by scrolling up and down the routes in the weather routing window. If you change route most often the same thing happens.
If you move the Weather routing window the new route is repainted and the cpu goes to idle.

Re: Weather Routing

Yes, I see it some times going up to 28-29% CPU. I wonder if there is some particular setting that causes this?

Re: Weather Routing

Rick,

Her's some more info.

I am routing a boat from position 540 Nm WNW of Horta.
The program routes most of the way but then freezes and just sits there and consumes cpu power and the fan i spinning loudly.
I include 2 screen plots. One taken at 12:26 and the other 13:13. I.e 47 minutes apart.
During this time the cpu load is at 25-30% for the whole time.

End of log-file at 13:16 reads:

12:19:12.924 MESSAGE RolloverWin.cpp:161 New texture 24
12:19:12.924 MESSAGE RolloverWin.cpp:174 Render texture 24
12:19:12.966 MESSAGE RolloverWin.cpp:308 Draw texture 23
12:19:13.430 MESSAGE RolloverWin.cpp:308 Draw texture 23
12:19:13.465 MESSAGE RolloverWin.cpp:161 New texture 24
12:19:13.466 MESSAGE RolloverWin.cpp:174 Render texture 24
12:19:13.479 MESSAGE RolloverWin.cpp:308 Draw texture 23
12:19:14.002 MESSAGE RolloverWin.cpp:161 New texture 24
12:19:14.002 MESSAGE RolloverWin.cpp:174 Render texture 24
12:19:14.050 MESSAGE RolloverWin.cpp:308 Draw texture 23

So, nothing is written to the log-file after the program freezes

Afte I move the WeatherRouting window a few times the route finishes.

Now the end of the lo file looks like:

12:19:14.002 MESSAGE RolloverWin.cpp:161 New texture 24
12:19:14.002 MESSAGE RolloverWin.cpp:174 Render texture 24

Re: Weather Routing

Hans, that was very helpful! I think I have located the problem...
rolloverwin.cpp is not in weather_routing_pi, it is in a closely associated plugin known as grib_pi. https://github.com/rgleason/OpenCPN/...olloverWin.cpp

Note that the last change to that file was made to make it work with MacOS, in so doing the change may have screwed up Windows operation. With over 10K commits in OpenCPN, there is no way everything can be tested on every platform every time there is a change. So it is up to us to find these problems. Thank you! Hopefully Dave will spot the real problem from here.

Re: Weather Routing

Have made this issue in github.
https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/issues/1963
Dave may have some questions/requests for you Hans.

Note that the route details can be studied in more detail with the "View" > "Cursor Position" window open. We can move the cursor along the route and see the changes for certain parameters.

An improvement would be to have a more elaborate window which allows selection of which parameters to show.

POLAR FILES: Additional, need encoding, formatting.

We have a whole bunch of additional polar files (over 500) that I would like to add to Data/Polars/Additional and distribute for use.
However before doing that I want to be sure that they all work properly in weather_routing.

1. I note that our polar files are all UTF-8 encoding.
2. Some of these 500 files are ASCII encoding and will need to be changed.
3. Additionally there are small changes in format that are needed to be fully compatible.

The jzip file with the >500 polars is uploaded here (with .pdf added at the end), so that some good natured volunteer can fix them all to be compatible with weather_routing and we can then include them with weather_routing.

Please attach your rework here by adding a .pdf Thanks!

Note: I have not even tried them..just compiled them all from various sources that I have collected over the years.

Rick, are you sure that this is the case ? Could it not be that the rolloverwin.cpp is prohibited from writing to the log-file due to the fact that the program is busy in a loop somewhere else.

/Hans

Re: Weather Routing

Sean's Weather_Routing v1.13.11.0 is now on the Plugin Manager 'master' catalog for 13 environments.

It is now managing language files better and the high CPU has dropped perhaps 3-5% and it works better however I believe the cpu usage is still too high.

Re: Weather Routing

Greetings,

I have found that the icon for this in the toolbar doesn't stay after a restart of O5.1.704.... When i restart the app, i have to go into the p-lugin manager to verify it is indeed enabled. After exiting, it shows up. I don't have the issue with any other plugins.

Im on a Mac with Catalina.
