Re: Weather Routing

- All settings are the same except position of start point.

- " Are the advanced settings both set to default?" : no, but I just made another test with default settings with same results.

Re: Weather Routing

OK, I understand the question now. You are too close to land for those settings to work. You need to decrease the time between steps and perhaps increase the angle of search (I forget the precise name)

Re: Weather Routing

Understood ! it's explained in manual for WR Pi chapter

but it was not easy to understand (at least for me...).

Thank you for your help

Re: Weather Routing

Hello,

would using objects from vector maps to detect dangers (reefs, water level, wrecks, etc.) and taking them into account by routing be possible ?

I use OpenDraw to set up “exclusion zones” for areas like that, so weather routing will be forced to rout around those areas.

+1

I have two zones drawn 100 miles each way from my home port: "too shallow north" and "too shallow south".

They also work well with the Watchdog plugin to warn if I'm straying too close to anything shallow.

If I understand it correctly, what you are thinking about is a "route checker", a function that OCPN is missing still. Laying out a vector and checking against a "bounding box" for objects that break the rules for a safe passage on this vector.

Exactly. It'll be a nice function added to WR. Or a new plugin ?

Not that easy as the functionality would be required for all types of vector charts, not just plain S-57. Such as S-63, oeSENC...

Re: Weather Routing

I think this should start out as a separate new plugin, perhaps later incorporated or a function called for by wr_pi, similar to boundaries created by odraw.

Re: Weather Routing

Note: As stated earlier by others, WR supports avoiding boundaries created with ODraw.

Those functions are currently available and very useful.

Re: Weather Routing

weather_routing v1.13.25 + FE2 v1.0.171 + new polars + flatpak

pull request has been submitted to PIM when merged it will be availabe.

The changes are:
  • Build new environments for flatpak (3)
  • Try to build android - not successful yet, still some errors to fix.
  • Update Jon's frontend2 to 1.0.171
  • New polar files (about 700) all cleaned up and formatted by Bill Freeman (thank you Bill!)

Re: Weather Routing

I have installed this plugin into my Ubuntu 20.04 desktop openCPN 5.2.4 Plugin API: 117 but it does not seem to be operating. Nothing happens when I press preferences in the plugin and I can see no Icon for weather routing on the toolbar.

Can anyone advise.

Cheers

You are correct it was! Both ticks are present in the boxes to say the plugin is activated.

I just tried reinstalling it from the button on the plugin. It said it was reinstalled successfully but now the preferences button is greyed out.
