The log file is located here :
C:\ProgramData\opencpn\opencpn.log

If you want to start up fresh just delete it before starting OpenCPN.
You don't need any initialization.

Also accessible using the Toolbar ? and the link. Both the logbook and ini or config. Then just copy it to your favorite text editor.

In the User Manual under FAQ, please read the top 9 or 10 questions

Re: Weather Routing

To really find a bug it needs to be repeatable by multiple users.
I tried turning on CM93 and the double canvas and I can't seem to make it freeze with weather_routing open.

It seems to route ok. What am I missing?

Later: and I ran St. Lucia routing and it completed fine. I can move the configuration window during and after.

How do I get this freezeup to happen?

Re: Weather Routing

Rick,

I have made a recording showing the behavior.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/bdkbyyosao...8_REC.mp4?dl=0

I have routed from Provincetown to Lizards Point without gribs, only Clima.
the film show in order.
1) I can pan and zoom.
2) I can move the weather routing window within the screen.
3) I can sill pan and zoom
4) I move the weather routing window to the right and place it so that the right hand side is outside the screen.
5) I can still pan and zoom as shown.
6) I move the weather routing window to the left still having the right hand side outside of the screen.
7) Now, nothing happens when I try to pan or zoom.
8) I move the weather routing window once more slightly to the left still having the right hand side outside of the screen.
9) I still can't pan or zoom.
10) I move the weather routing window to the right.
11) The chart is repainted to the current position.
12) I am able to pan and zoom.
13) I move the weather routing window to the right.
14) I am able to pan and zoom.
15) I move the weather routing window slightly to the left still having the right hand side outside of the screen.
16) Nothing happens when I try to pan or zoom.
17) I move the weather routing window to the left completely inside the screen.
18) The chart is repainted as soon as the weather routing window is inside the screen.
19) I can pan and zoom.

Here it is:

1. As long as the weather routing window is completely within the computer screen there is no hanging.

2. If you place it so that the right edge is outside of the screen and YES

3. then move it slightly to the right (more of it is outside the screen) everything is ok, YES

4. but if you move it to the left and still have a part of it outside the screen YES

5. you can not zoom/pan or whatever. NO I can zoom and pan. With OpenGL on and off.

6. You must place it completely within the screen or move it to the right. NO not on this computer
There must be some other factor.

Re: Weather Routing

hans...
No, you are not crazy!
I can repeat your experiment, with hang.

Even with no computed route showing, do this:
1. Run OpenCPN, in screen maximized mode.

2. Open weather_routing_pi, from toolbar.
3. Move the weather_routing control dialog to the right, half off of screen.
4. Verify that mouse pan works.
5. Move the weather_routing control dialog slightly to the left, just a few pixels, but still partially off-screen.
6. At this point, zoom/pan are NOT functional.
7. Recover by moving the weather_routing control dialog fully onto the screen.
8. Verify that pan/zoom now works.

A mystery. Very strange behavior. Actually has nothing to do with either the weather routing algorithm, nor with OpenGL. Something about the native Window manager...

This seems to be only a Windows issue, does not appear on linux or Mac.

I will investigate further.
No need to create a video. I get it.

Thanks for your patience.
Dave

Well then, how would one explain that it does not occur in OpenCPN 4.8.4 ?

Re: Weather Routing

I don't understand why I can't do it. I have a very high res monitor on this laptop 3840 x 2400 would that explain anything?

Thanks Hans and Dave for the persistence.

I did review the movie.... thanks. Its not happening for me.

"explain that it does not occur in OpenCPN 4.8.4"
We updated wxWidgets version for OCPN 5.6.x versions. No doubt related....

Re: Weather Routing

Rick...
You need to hang the control dialog partially off the side of the screen. Pix attached.
Read the directions closely, especially step (5).

"5. Move the weather_routing control dialog slightly to the left, just a few pixels, but still partially off-screen."

Re: Weather Routing

Yes! It's happening here too, with OpenGL on and with it off, on multiple weather_routes. Thanks.
