Re: Weather Routing

Very interesting display. Did a git fetch and found nothing. Went back to most current compiled versions. Downloaded new gribs. Created new start and end points. 1 hour steps. All my attempts to run using grib end in failure.
Sean it is not working now for me under Win7, unfortunately. Any suggestions?

Do you have land detection on?

To publish here, just rename to .pdf extension, so boat.xml.pdf, and (from File -> Save in weather routing dialog) the weather routing configuration xml file. Also please post the grib file used.

Please post the files (boat.xml configuration.xml and grib file used) and I will try.

Re: Weather Routing

Land detection was on, but it did the same with land detection off.

Here are the files requested. I also used other gribs with less and more data but always with the same effect.

20141213_170352_.grb.bz2.pdf

Boat.xml.pdf

Re: Weather Routing

Sean used two different boat.xml files and several different and recent grib files, will try to attach along with weatherconfig.xml
I used "startagain" and "endit" waypoint config which is at the bottom.

Hope this works. Thanks Sean.

Re: Weather Routing

I've used both boat xml files, and both grib and used startagain and endit like you did.

The state message was Mostra Pannello:Grib Failed
where I suppose Mosta Pannello should be translated from italian to Show Panel in English

Re: Weather Routing

bompa, thanks for trying. Out of curiosity, what version of weather_routing_pi are you using?
Did you compile it? Version No? Is it Windows, Linux?

I am using Windows7 and compiled wx_routing_pi on 12/15/2014
weather_routing_pi-1.2-win32.exe
on Opencpn Beta File Thingie rguser rgpass

Re: Weather Routing

I am running on Linux 14.04 LTS (Ubuntu).
Opencpn is version 3.3.2410 (Beta)
I use the version 1.2 (released 2014-12-04) of weather routing that was found on the opencpn plugins page.
No compilation.

Re: Weather Routing

The recent one that Pavel provided, I believe. Also I think that was the version that he improved compilation support and languages, and that was the version when Climatology started working again!

I am going to go back to a version just before that, that does not support the new improved Climatology (bigger database) and see if gribs still work.

Re: Weather Routing

Okay I have installed and tested
weather_routing_pi-1.1-ov3.3.1824-f-win32.exe 8/1/2014
weather_routing_pi-1.1-ov3.3.1824-g-win32.exe 8/2/2014
weather_routing_pi-1.1-ov3.3.1824-h-win32.exe 8/25/2014
weather_routing_pi-1.1-ov3.3.1824-i-win32.exe 8/29/2014
weather_routing_pi-1.2-ov3.3.2107-win32.exe 9/15/2014
weather_routing_pi-1.2-ov3.3.2330-win32.exe 9/15/2014
weather_routing_pi-1.2-ov3.3.2410-win32.exe 12/12/2014
None of them would run a Grib file! This is using the current 3.3.2401 version of GRIB!

Does anyone want to bet that if I install an earlier version of GRIB and run it with weather_routing_pi-1.2-ov3.3.2410-win32.exe 12/12/2014
that the plugin will run gribs?

I now believe that the problem is some change to the GRIB plugin.

Re: Weather Routing

Okay I have tried weather_routing_pi 1.2 most current with Grib 2.2
and when trying to run a grib file, I get message "Grib plugin not supported"

My bet is that the current GRIB dll has been changed in such a way that it no longer supports Weather_routing.

Is there a way to compile GRIB with out some of the recent features?
1. Particle Map ?
2. Changes to the way it interpolates?
3. Other changes that might affect Weather_routing?

Also can someone check the code changes to weather_routing between recent version that supports climatology and previous version which did not support the improved climatology?

weather_routing_pi-1.2-ov3.3.2410-win32.exe
12/12/2014

weather_routing_pi-1.2-ov3.3.2330-win32.exe 12/3/2014 [there were earlier versions that did not support the current climatology with improved db.]

climatology_pi-0.13-ov3.2.2-d-db-new-win32.exe 9/29/2014 <---This was the date
I have when the db changed and Weather_routing stopped working with Climatology.

This condition was fixed with fairly recent updates to weather_routing by Pavel about 12/3/2014

I believe that the plugin was working with GRIB up until that time. [Sorry Pavel, we are all human, and you did get it running with the new Climatology! --I did not catch this problem either! ]

So to summarize the problem:
1. Weather_routing no longer runs Grib files.
2. The changes made around 12/3/2014 which got Climatology working may have also disrupted running gribs.
3. The changes made to Grib.dll for "particles" and other items like "interpolation" may have made Grib.dll imcompatible with wx_routing.

It might help new users if the error messages in Weather_routing had a little more specificity ... like "Grib failed: setting time error" "Grib failed: boat parameter error" "Grib failed: constraints error" etc.
however these would not have helped us with this problem.

Re: Weather Routing

Now I've tried Grib 2.2 and Weather_routing 1.1 using Opencpn v3.3.2410 and I get message "Grib version not supported" message.

This is starting to get me ticked. I used to be able to run earlier versions on current Opencpn as is the Plugin Policy. What is going on here? If there is some kind of plugin version checking going on here, it is restricting my ability to find the source of the problem!

After the last go around, I am not going to spend much time isolating this problem. It simply does not work and thats it. Its someone elses problem.

----
Furthermore I can't emphasize enough the ability to run two different versions of a plugin AND be able to determine which one is which somehow, both in Options > Plugins and at the Icon. ..for the purpose of testing.

Gerhard I hear you, but the plugins would be pretty big. I personnally would not mind a joining, but earlier we had two different Grib plugins, one that Sean developed to work with Weather_routing and one that Jean Pierre improved with a different interface. The two grib plugins were joined and with joint work this plugin has become quite a tour de force!

Now Sean has also continued development of weather_routing and it is, in its own right a real tour de force too. I think the two programmers understand each other and have worked together to resolve earlier problems.

Perhaps it can be done again and then once fixed, some discussion and thought about how to proceed in the future with the two plugins can ensue. I think the next step for Grib is to support Grib2 and Pavel has something that may do that.

I don't know if the developers want to have Weather_routing as a part of the main program download either. It is perhaps more appropriate as an optional download.

Re: Weather Routing

"Grib version not supported" message. This is pretty cryptic.
Where is this message coming from? Who is reporting?
- Opencpn v3.3.2410?
- Weather_routing v1.1?
- Gribv2.2?
- Are we talking about a file or a plugin?
Why is it not supported?
- I am Weather_routing and I can't read the file Grib v1.1 is serving me.
- I am Grib v1.1 and this grib file is screwed up beyond belief.
- I am Weather_routing and I don't like the Grib v1.1
- lot of actors here.

Who is going to be the conductor?
Lets make a symphony.

Re: Weather Routing

the problem is a bug in the core opencpn, not weather routing or grib.

with API 1.12 all messages sent to a plugin with this version are dropped because of a bug. On december 3, pitzef added support for areas for emails so the grib plugin was changed to 1.12 and hence any weather routing communication is dropped.

So either wait for next beta, or use older beta.
