Re: Weather Routing - Working under W10 anybody?

I will try to compile a windows version which includes did-g's improvements when I get a chance.

Hi,

It's unlikely my latest changes have an effect.

Moo could you post your not working routing zones gpx file?
What locale are you using, in windows and in opencpn?

Thanks

You can do what you want, but I can't help you then.
Rick I followed your instructions to the letter (I think) none of the examples completed. See the screenshot that I supplied.

What version should be reported by the version in your download link?

Please slow down and respect the beta testers . I'm only trying to help and reporting what I find.

Hi, Where do I find the routing zones GPX?

I don't have a problem with my own routing. I do have a problem getting Ricks examples to work.

The locale is UK English in Windows 10. In OpenCPN it is English U.S. which is I believe the only English option.

Hi,

It's draw plugin, export all visible but I can confirm that if draw plugin boundaries are ok with weather_routing boundary points are not.

Yes that is what I see. Instead of making a point I drew a polygon around the areas I wanted to avoid and it works fine.

What is the context of your question Rick? Did you intend to quote something there?

Following your instructions with your downloads. No it does not work. See the screen shot attached earlier.

If I create the directories as per the wiki, delete the data in program files(x86) and delete the weatherRoutingConfiguration.xml file i.e. start with empty data files except for a good polar. A clean system, and take it from there is works fine.

Simple is best.

Re: Weather Routing - Working under W10 anybody?

This morning I downloaded and installed the exe to a totally "clean" Opencpn v4.8.0.

To clean the ini file I removed all the line entries for weather_routing and saved the file. Then I deleted/removed the files under ProgramFiles (x86)\Opencpn4.8.0\plugins and ProgramData\opencpn\plugins that were for weather_routing.

Then installed the exe to OpenCPN v4.8.0 and followed the new writeup in the link below, to copy the files and directories to the appropriate programdata directory and to redirect all the paths as needed in the plugin. Please see the revised writeup.

Sorry, I should have actually followed through and done this before, but it took a number of days originally to prepare and get the plugin working and I was just ready to be "done".

This is the link:
https://github.com/rgleason/weather_...tag/1.1001Rick

This morning I got all but two of the configurations working following the installation notes. The two that don't work, will work when you shorten the time interval. Read why this works in the wiki notes (link provided).

Moo,
Good luck and thank you for your help. Hope that weather_routing does it's job and I'd be very interested in your experiences with Weatherfax and the new format if you manage to download some of those files..

Sorry about the delay. Just reporting in. We had a good sail from Fiji to New Zealand (Nelson). There was not much weather routing to do. We left Vuda point marina, sailed out through the reef set the boat up for 60 degrees apparent on port tack and occasionally tucked or shook out a reef until we reached Cape Reinga where the wind died completely and we started the motor for the rest of the voyage to Nelson.

I fine tuned my polar and played with routing along the way but there wasn't a lot to learn from such a straight forward trip. Once I had my polar file tweaked I found the routeing to be pretty accurate though especially when comparing predicted with actual.

Cheers

We left the boat there for a week or so while we shot down to Christchurch to get back to work. I didn't take much notice of trees but the beers was good Drove up and moved the boat to Havelock the following weekend. Havelock will be home port for the next 18 months whilst we work in Christchurch and save some pennies for a much needed refit on the boat before the next adventure begins.

We like Havilock, Jim on his new Mailboat, and the Marlboro Sounds.
